the fire started about 3:00 this morning near bayshore and augusta. we have live team coverage in place. christie smith talked to people. bob has the latest on the fire. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. because of the suspicious nature of this fire an investigator is out at the scene. we're near boutwell, 101 and 280. you can see the debris on the sidewalk. that's some of the building that fell on the sidewalk during the fire. this started in a vacant building. it's second from the bottom of the street. a 61-year-old man is in custody. police arresting him for his possible involvement in starting this. that home was a place that had been home to squatter. witnesses saw this man running with something in his hand. he was arrested when he decided to return. the fire spread, all of those were two story homes that were occupied. the fire was so intense when the first truck arrived the fire department called for a fourth alarm. about a third of the department's entire on-duty staff. they were able to contain the fire to those four struc

at bayshore and augusta in the silver terrace neighborhood of san francisco not far from 101 and 280. in the foreground you have a lot of firefighters, you see those four buildings that run up the street here, those are the buildings that burn abouted. it started around 3:00 this morning in a vacant building. the fire department said the fire was so intense they had to call a fourth alarm and took a defensive posture, in other words, they let it burn but tried to keep it contained. it did spread to three buildings occupied into an apartment building and they were able to stop the fire but those buildings suffered serious damage. it is thought it was possibly a squatter inside the vacant building that might have accidentally or intentionally, started this fire. this is information from a neighbor who lives in one of the buildings that burn withed. she tells us on july 4th, 2009, about two years ago from tomorrow, that same building burned. so here she is again almost two years to the day, in the same situation where her home has now burned, suffered damage. we understand there are 50 p
