this last march, still fresh from the memory of the aurora massacre in the wake of newtown. a new bill that would restrict the size of the ammunition bills that those like holmes used to murder the people in aurora. naturally, they poured money into the state, lobbying against the bill. and colorado may have gone for barack obama twice but it is a western mountain state, steeped in gun culture. the fight over that bill was a pitched one, even governor hickenlooper was squirrely about whether they would find it. they stuck to their guns and pushed it through by a vote, 18-17, not a single republican for the bill and two democrats even sided with the republicans. after the bill passed, the nra vowed revenge, and used a suspicious number of signed petitions, aiming to take down two senators in swing districts. the two who represent part of colorado springs in pueblo, colorado, two districts president obama won last cycle in the '50s and '60s. the activists started to write checks to make the recall happen. they won that round and got the first recall election for state senator
