we now moved to an overlook here on the backside of the park. you can give you a better sense of what's going on. you can see, that is the river running along the backside of the park. you can see it running right there against the retaining wall on the backside of the beach boardwalk and that is what is causing the problems out here. usually that river runs directly out to the ocean but now, since we've had all the rain over the last couple of days, it actually pushed the river out of it's regular channel a little bit to the west and is running along the backside of the park. it has already washed away one wooden stairway. i spoke with a maintenance worker when he first arrived here and he told me you can see the staircase out in the baby daylight. if that water continues to run along the retaining wall it could undermine that wall and cause a lot of damage. now the boardwalk spokesperson said that the water has never come this close to the park. coming out to our live picture, you might just be able to make out one of the earth movers there. n
