the same situation has occurred over the years periodically on balboa, the other end of washington high school. the merchants in that area, particularly food merchants, have had to get together and literally pound on the door of the high school principal and that staff in order to get anything done and at times, have actually had students get out and do the cleanup. i would make a suggestion. i cannot enforce it, but i would make a suggestion. if you would talk to your clients and have them get together with the other fast- food restaurants that are directly adjacent to them, and call on washington high school, as a group, and tell them their students are causing a problem. it has to be done periodically. the school does something -- you have to do it again. it would be an indication that there are students, over which the schools do have some immediately -- and needed control, are causing problems for the neighborhood. the kids want the restaurants. the schools want the restaurants. that is excellent for the neighborhood. but they have to get together in order to get some operation --

i know those schools a little better, but i know balboa, washington, and mission pretty well, too. did something a little different when i was working in government. when i was working at public works, i ended up having to clean all the city. the way we did it when it came to the schools was we talked to your principles and tried to get you involved. during those years, we got the saturday clean it teams, where a lot of your cohorts are getting credit for working with us. they are planting trees, like getting the environment going. i hate going to other schools. when the school is well kept, clean, when the neighbors feel that the students are in and out of the school and respecting everybody's right to have a nice place to go to, you feel a lot better. we did that with you as students, with your principals, and many of your teachers. you got credit for it as well. we even painted some of the benches red for those eagles. a lot of the other school sports areas. we are working hard to make sure you have jobs when you come out of school. that is what i have been working on.
