i think that we have are rare opportunity at balboa park. it is probably the second most congested station in santa it is. we have cars, pedestrians -- in san francisco. we have cars, pedestrians, and i hope that it will be integrated to do something special to create a signifier statement. i am here to enthusiastically endorse it and i hope we see success here. supervisor kim: thank you. >> lisa pegon, office of economic and work force development. i am here in support of this legislation. on behalf of my roles in the balboa station planned area implementation, i am a project manager for the office of economic and work-force development in the area that is a series of real-estate development projects that the city is managing and i am overseeing different department works to redevelopment that area. as well as a liaison with the district, many of their priority projects, making the area to the balboa station a healthy, safe, positive experience for bicyclists and pedestrians to walk back and forth to the commercial district, the city colleg

since that time, the mta has also conducted a capacity study of balboa park station area. there are land use decisions. there are decisions around transit that are sitting in desks on paper. that are not giving in acted as quickly as possible. this is -- that are not getting enacted as quickly as possible. this is not adequate for the needs of people in the southern part of san francisco. we have wanted to make sure we can have improvements done in a timely way, knowing the timelines are stretched out to a great length. with this advisory committee, it is about making sure we can have a partnership with the mta, with bart, with other entities around the area, to ensure they are accomplishing the much-needed goals of improvement around transit, pedestrian safety, commercial space, commercial development. these are all key aspects of the work of the cac to ensure we are making our timelines. i have a small amendment to this resolution. it is on page 3, at the tail end of that paragraph, the first paragraph, the result clause on that page. it is as follows. the rules committe

there are different challenges in balboa park, different from noriega and others.y are committed to working with the communities on the chosen districts. this is not a one-size-fits-all approach for street paving or sidewalks. it is about what the community feels like it needs. supervisor chu: end of the department? >> the department of public works is committed to geographic equity in all of our projects. and we stated that before we brought this to you. supervisor, i think that you inserted into the legislation making geographic location a requirement as a geographic equity a requirement as a bond. -- geographic equity a requirement as a bond. we will be bringing that money to the capital planning committee soon. the board of supervisors will be hearing about that as well. i want to add that we are committed to geographic equity over a period of periods of years. a lot of these projects, we do not get funds to do 11 major projects every year. it is kind of an issue of rolling equity. i just want to remind you that every time that we have funding or a project is r

new programs, from the federal state planning research project all of the way down to the federal balboa park station. those are all new rounds with funding that we received four grants after it was completed last may. next, we have the stateab1 ab11. we are in phase one of the project and we anticipate completion by june 30 with an additional $36 million in revenues and expenditures to be completed this fiscal year. next, we have more grants, more grants that have either been spent in the last fiscal year, or more grants them -- that we will be spending in this fiscal year. coming from a line item down to the regional development authority spending. we also have $146,000 that we are adding to to the designation that has been accepted to run the transportation island transportation program. that item was approved back in october 2011. as we are going down the schedule, we have other avenues. a large revenue projects that consists of $707,000 a dpw because -- for dpw and the federal highway administration emergency release grant for a great highway project. we also have some refunds from proje

we have also been working on the balboa park station circulation study where we also obtained a caltrans grant to do a feasibility analysis to improve access to muni, bart, enhance pedestrian safety, and support for a citizen advisory committee to track progress of the station improvement projects. we have a number of ongoing studies and projects including travel management partnerships, octavius circulation studies, bay shore intermodal access the study, western soma neighborhood transportation plan, and major improvements to our forecasting models. we also obtained a trout -- caltrans grant for the bayview hunters point mobility solutions study. this is a seminal effort on how to do more with what we have and to knit the community together in the process. we're looking forward to completing the study this year. we have also made progress on the bike county study which is a multi-jurisdictional, multi- agency, multi-year study to look at the southeast corner of the city and adjacent areas in some detail county. in 2011, this effort resulted in priority projects worth over $600 million,

along balboa park station, geneva, san jose, pushing hard to get a ramp for pedestrians.ight now, it is dangerous to cross the street, especially if you are pushing a stroller or are in a wheelchair. you have to go further than you but typically have to. there is so much more to do. we have to figure out how to calm the traffic. a lot of cars, speeding through and make it unsafe for pedestrians. sidewalks are not very convenient for people. it takes a lot of money to do that, but it is really about being vigilant and looking at the fund the come through the transportation authority. we have been extending sidewalks in some places to help with pedestrians, trying to put in islands, plantings to slow down traffic. bike lanes have helped. a bit controversial where i live is a bike lane. people do not see as many bikes, but we are seeing more and more common now that the bike lanes are coming in. that makes it safer for pedestrians. we have a bike way on a major street. you do not have as much time to cross, and you cut down one lane for the cars and a pedestrian can then wal

at the full board, they heard an ordinance that would create the balboa park community advisory committee. the cac will provide input in committee oversight for transportation and other public improvements in the area. during the hearing on tuesday, the resolution was emperor -- approved with one amendment. the cac would sunset two years after the first meeting unless the board authorizes the continuance of the cac. also the board approved supervisor chiu's third resolution, extending the commission's time span for review the two ordinances which are on your calendar for later today. this provides a 30-day extension. the new deadline for action is next friday, march 9. lastly, there were two new ordinance is introduced this week that i wanted to share. and would amend the public works code to modify the permissible distance between mobile food facilities and schools. this is sponsored by supervisors olague and wiener. all this ordinance is not currently scheduled for a specific discussion before this hearing, it will be discussed in the context of a related ordinance on april 10. we have
