michael cabanatuan, give us a sense of where are the talks between bart and the union? >> well, they've been talking since may which is kind of a light start but it seems like they finally started making some progress yesterday. you know, bart has been known -- bart and its unions have been known for walking right up to the deadline and getting a settlement. i think a lot of people just figure, well, that's what's going to happen every time. this time it seems like it may be a little different. they seem farther apart. they seem like they're not really moving closer together at least not very quickly. and there's an anger among some of the employees. four years ago they not only forfeited raises, they took a contract without raises but they also gave up $100 million in savings to the district. $100 million in concessions. so this time they're saying, ridership is up considerably. it's increased 6% each of the last three to four years. and they're turning maybe 100 million, 125 million surplus. and they're saying so share the money. >> give us a sense of relative to other
