so the radar is starting to line up around the bay area. ot so much around san jose but you can see light rain showers approaching marin county and into the north bay and some embedded thunder along the cold front which is offshore and notice these popcorn like clouds. that is some cold, unstable air aloft that's going to drive down our snow levels and bring us quite a bit of rain heading into tomorrow morning. so rain already starting to spread over the bay area. now notice the trend here into the afternoon. mostly in the south bay but if the cold air dropping in on the north side below could get some sleet mixing in some of those heavier showers for parts of the inland north bay areas, up to lake county as we start to head toward monday things start to dry off. above 2,000 feet tonight could get a little snow. as we head into monday storm tracker steers off to the north so monday, tuesday, and i think first half of wednesday is dry but then we'll see a little more rain coming in as we head toward thanksgiving. so tonight we'll see breezy c

nbc bay area news. >> thank you, jean. allegations a war veteran was beaten by police said the sheriff's department firing back tonight. friends of his said he was injured in the take down and denied medical care for hours. they released video of him walking in to be booked. another clip shows him separated from other prisoners after he explained of feeling sick. that's when he was separated and being helped by a nurse soon after that when she was able to walk. the video shows he was not able to be brought in and he did get the help he needed. >> family members and friends made claims against the sheriff's office that are flat untrue. he was in great pain when he walked into the jail and the video shows that's not true. they are saying he got zero medical attention and left abandoned for hours and hours and never saw anybody until he was released and went to the hospital. that's also untrue. >> he is still being cared for in intensive care in highland hospital, but in fair condition. his family could not be reached for com

we could not let today pass without major representation from the bay area city, since this is a significant link here between the bay cities. i'd like to introduce from the city of san francisco, mohammed nuru. >> good morning, and thank you for having us out here. i'd like to start by first of all expressing mayor lee's regret for not being able to come here. unfortunately, he got stuck at city hall. but with that said, we are very, very happy to be here for this event, and to join our partners. this celebration today marking installation of the 28th piece of the piece of bridge completes the driveway, bringing the rage into san francisco. as we heard from the mayor, it is a very, very important part of the project because it does connect san francisco. as you know, of 100 million people use this bridge in a year to come to san francisco. but the construction of the bridge itself brings a lot of jobs to the bay area and we're very, very happy about that in support of all the work that our president is doing in washington to bring more of projects of this type. this bridge marks a huge impr

i looked at a number of places in the bay area. after looking at places in the east bay and the peninsula, i realized the company should be right here in the mission bay innovation center. why? we were always going to remain small. i wanted to be a capital efficient company, and the opportunities to maintain cost control were huge by relocating the company here. being in san francisco, we are also ideally located to recruit top talent, and we've done so. we're goiming to -- going to remain small. my standards for hiring top employees, very high. we found good employees and they've relocated from other cities in california and the east coast to work here. so we've brought new, talented people into the company. we also have people who commute in from the peninsula. i think that's another strong selling point that people in mission bay don't realize. we're at the center of a transit hub and that's very important for not only environmental reasons, but allowing people to come into the city and work efficiently. so we have employees who

live in redwood city, tracy graham, nbc bay area news. >>> now to the occupy movement in the bay area. two significant developments today. expansion and a verbal confrontation. in oakland, it was supposed to be a conference, but turned into a shouting match. high above from our nbc helicopter, hundreds of protesters are demonstrating on the cal campus. the past few hours, tsehere hav been minor clashes between protesters and police. let's go down to the ground level. nbc bay area cheryl hurd is there. >> reporter: no end in sight, raj. the chancer of affairs is expected to address the crowd of hundreds of students. he wants to set the ground rules for this protest. those ground rules are coming after police moved in earlier today. there was a lot of pushing and shoving. u.c. berkeley officials say six people were arrested. occupy u.c. berkeley is about fee hikes and the cutbacks in classes. and students we talked to consider themselves the 99 percenters. they say they want change. >> the occupation was endorsed both by the graduate assembly and the associated students of the universit

nbc bay area employees spread out across the bay area to help collect food for those in need. we made it to about a hundred safeway stores and our goal was to collect at least 300 bags of groceries at each store. jessica was in pleasanton. i was out in orinda. there is jeff and dozens of volunteers helped out. thanks to the giant folks there as well. there's rob at the safeway store in danville with blue skies. together nbc bay area partnered with safeway stores and bay area food banks and so far we have collected more than 10,000 bags today. 17,000 bags since wednesday. >> well last year through our food drive and the partnership we have with you we've been able to give $130 million in products to needy food banks across the nation. we find that people really resonate with this. that they want to give back. especially at thanksgiving. you're doing your own thanksgiving shopping. you want to give somebody else a great turkey dinner. >> here is one thing susan didn't mention. this year we made it simple to help out with prepacked bags available for you to purchase for $10 but l

a long wind duration with the entire bay area under a wind watch and also a wind warning. the most critical areas will be regions in the hills, above 1,000 feet for the northeast and also the south bay for wednesday and also thursday, and -- and that includes the east bay. this is where we do think the winds will be ramping up the highest for wednesday and thursday with wind gusts that could even top 60 miles per hour out here at mt. diablo, so here's what we can expect with the winds. throughout tomorrow morning, starts to pick up. goes from breezy to windy by the evening hours for these hills. 20 to 40 miles per hour. then by thursday morning, that's when we do expect the likelihood here of possibly some power outages as we will have been under this wind that was sustained winds above 20 miles per hour for about well over a day or so, so for tomorrow morning, upper 30s and low to mid-40s and by 10:00 or 11:00 tomorrow, still on the cooler side with plenty of low 60s so the wind will be delaying us at the airport the next two days and then the system out here in the east a
