you cannot talk about bayview hunters point without saying the name charley walker. we called him the mayor of hunters point. former mayor call him the mayor of bayview. charley has helped hundreds to possibly thousands of young black men and women into the field of construction and small business. before california jail realignment, countless black men and women would be returned home to the bayview community unable to find employment because of their criminal record. no one would hire them but charley walker. the trucking and construction company gladly employed formerly incarcerated from the community. for most of his life in the bayview, he was fighting for resources while the city was allocating resources to the other part of the city. when we talk about equity and reparations and all the work that we need to do in the city, charley is one of the last civil rights witnesses that can share with you how unfair the city was to black people. because of fearless leaders like charley walker, dr. jackson, shirley jones, willie kennedy, adam rogers and eloise westbrook a

programs and also within the bayview-hunters point and contracting approximately. what that is is our architects and engineers working on that project should be making available training opportunities for essentially college students that are interested in entering those particular fields. in 1996, we became a bit more proactive and working with the oewd office and the mayor's office, at that time, under mayor ed lee, to increase the participation of students where that training and hiring program. i'm happy to say since 19 -- i'm sorry. i'm dating myself. i apologize. since 2016, certainly, we've had a positive impact. 54 students have participated in our program. in fact, there's an upcoming capstone graduation that's upcoming this september 3. if you haven't already received an invitation, you will receive an invitation from our community partner, jcyc, the japanese community youth center. it's not only a graduation by a celebration of the five graduates graduating this year. i think it's a fantastic project of getting youths interested in, really, the s.t.e.m.

good evening to the directors, and i am a san francisco native, born and raised in bayview-hunters point. also was a product of the public school system and catholic school system here in the city. granddaughter of [inaudible] that was migrators from the south here to san francisco in 1940, and my background is beyond e.e.o. it's in race and equity work. i have probably a good 15-plus certifications in indigenous methodology and also partner nationally with descendants of lynching history. i'm a descendant of three lynching victims and worked in montgomery, alabama with trauma work and bringing them to the table in the most difficult work and circumstances in today's time. utilize story telling, and engaging with employees in conflict around how to come to the table but also realizing that some conflict is not always resolved but it can be managed. so i will be partnering with numerous people within the agency along with a lot directors around what that ends up looking like so that people with sfmta understanding what the process has been, the historical context, but also engaged with me

programs and also within the bayview-hunters point and contracting approximately. what that is is our architects and engineers working on that project should be making available training opportunities for essentially college students that are interested in entering those particular fields. in 1996, we became a bit more proactive and working with the oewd office and the mayor's office, at that time, under mayor ed lee, to increase the participation of students where that training and hiring program. i'm happy to say since 19 -- i'm sorry. i'm dating myself. i apologize. since 2016, certainly, we've had a positive impact. 54 students have participated in our program. in fact, there's an upcoming capstone graduation that's upcoming this september 3. if you haven't already received an invitation, you will receive an invitation from our community partner, jcyc, the japanese community youth center. it's not only a graduation by a celebration of the five graduates graduating this year. i think it's a fantastic project of getting youths interested in, really, the s.t.e.m.
