built between 1958 to 1960, it was located in the bayview hunters point where it was home to the san francisco giants and 49ers. the last event held was a concert in late 2014. it was demolished in 2015. mlb team the san francisco giants played at candlestick from 1960-1999. fans came to see players such a willie mays and barry bonds, over 38 seasons in the open ballpark. an upper deck expansion was added in the 1970s. there are two world series played at the stick in 1962 and in 198 9. during the 1989 world series against the oakland as they were shook by an earthquake. candlestick's enclosure had minor damages from the quake but its design saved thousands of lives. nfl team the san francisco 49ers played at candlestick from feign 71-2013. it was home to five-time super bowl champion teams and hall of fame players by joe montana, jerry rice and steve jones. in 1982, the game-winning touchdown pass from joe montana to dwight clark was known as "the catch." leading the niners to their first super bowl. the 49ers hosted eight n.f.c. championship games including the 2001 season that end

you cannot talk about bayview hunters point without saying the name charley walker. we called him the mayor of hunters point. former mayor call him the mayor of bayview. charley has helped hundreds to possibly thousands of young black men and women into the field of construction and small business. before california jail realignment, countless black men and women would be returned home to the bayview community unable to find employment because of their criminal record. no one would hire them but charley walker. the trucking and construction company gladly employed formerly incarcerated from the community. for most of his life in the bayview, he was fighting for resources while the city was allocating resources to the other part of the city. when we talk about equity and reparations and all the work that we need to do in the city, charley is one of the last civil rights witnesses that can share with you how unfair the city was to black people. because of fearless leaders like charley walker, dr. jackson, shirley jones, willie kennedy, adam rogers and eloise westbrook a

programs and also within the bayview-hunters point and contracting approximately. what that is is our architects and engineers working on that project should be making available training opportunities for essentially college students that are interested in entering those particular fields. in 1996, we became a bit more proactive and working with the oewd office and the mayor's office, at that time, under mayor ed lee, to increase the participation of students where that training and hiring program. i'm happy to say since 19 -- i'm sorry. i'm dating myself. i apologize. since 2016, certainly, we've had a positive impact. 54 students have participated in our program. in fact, there's an upcoming capstone graduation that's upcoming this september 3. if you haven't already received an invitation, you will receive an invitation from our community partner, jcyc, the japanese community youth center. it's not only a graduation by a celebration of the five graduates graduating this year. i think it's a fantastic project of getting youths interested in, really, the s.t.e.m.

good evening to the directors, and i am a san francisco native, born and raised in bayview-hunters point. also was a product of the public school system and catholic school system here in the city. granddaughter of [inaudible] that was migrators from the south here to san francisco in 1940, and my background is beyond e.e.o. it's in race and equity work. i have probably a good 15-plus certifications in indigenous methodology and also partner nationally with descendants of lynching history. i'm a descendant of three lynching victims and worked in montgomery, alabama with trauma work and bringing them to the table in the most difficult work and circumstances in today's time. utilize story telling, and engaging with employees in conflict around how to come to the table but also realizing that some conflict is not always resolved but it can be managed. so i will be partnering with numerous people within the agency along with a lot directors around what that ends up looking like so that people with sfmta understanding what the process has been, the historical context, but also engaged with me

i feel blessed to be up here for everyone, and i'm speaking from the bayview-hunters point perspective. i think the technology that we're not addressing is our neighborhood has the lowest median income in san francisco, and as opportunities prevent themselves, we are dealing with the fact that poverty and idleness is playing out in our streets, right? and so i'm glad that he spoke to the displacement. we're also getting newcomers into our community and dealing with the fact that folks that have been here historically have not been addressed, as well. we're trying to compile resources for our newcomers, for problems that are existing, and that tension is playing out. this is also a result of poverty, right? we saw this -- of course we saw this. folks started to see a crunch in resources. it started to become you're on your own. what we did see is we wanted to make sure that our community had what they needed, right? so this task force came about. folks were really trying to deal with that. >> and this idea that there's different perspectives to be shared even within what we wanted to di

and at bayview hunter's park. there's a member of all the volunteering from giants staff would do and still does at brett heart school and incredible community relationship we have here. so it's just such a pleasure to return to gilman field. we had a situation back in 1992 where the office moved and we had a rally in one thousand nine hundred ninety-two and there was a four-year-old and this picture exists in our ball park, we had a four-year-old on the shoulders of his father holding up a sign that said, "save my giants." you want to guess would that 4-year-old was? yes. pointing over here. brandon crawford. this is also giving back to this neighborhood and to our city for brandon crawford. just a round of applause for brandon. the greatest giants short stop in history. as we mentioned, this is 21 fields have been rebuilt. many in san francisco and it's just such a pleasure for the junior giants and the bay side to be able to use these fields and, you know, it's probably one of the greatest things that i think a

. >> so it's really important that communities like bayview-hunters point participate because in the past, they've been under counted, so what that means is that funding that should have gone to these communities, it wasn't enough. >> we're going to help educate people in the tenderloin, the multicultural residents of the tenderloin. you know, any one of our given blocks, there's 35 different languages spoken, so we are the original u.n. of san francisco. so it's -- our job is to educate people and be able to familiarize themselves on doing this census. >> you go on-line and do the census. it's available in 13 languages, and you don't need anything. it's based on household. you put in your address and answer nine simple questions. how many people are in your household, do you rent, and your information. your name, your age, your race, your gender. >> everybody is $2,000 in funding for our child care, housing, food stamps, and medical care. >> all of the residents in the city and county of san francisco need to be counted in census 2020. if you're not counted, then your community is u
