becky quick has a quick preview. >> you mentioned that equity futures this morning are weaker. in fact, those dow futures are down by about 30 points below fair value. asian stocks actually hitting about two-year highs overnight. this is thanks largely to some of those emerging markets. we have data points coming our way this morning that could affect stock prices. we'll be getting pending home sales and factory orders, but there's a much more important number this week. that's a big jobs report on friday. this is the monthly jobs report and at this point, economists are expecting we will see next to no job creation for the month. that's bad news especially when the inemployment rate is at 9.7%. a huge impact for washington and wall street. the markets are going to be keying on that and the request of how the fed reacts. the federal reserve has been making these noises that we might be seeing another round of quantitative easing, that they might try to help improve and ease things if we continue to see bad numbers. and this jobs number is a key for that. by the way, we have ear

becky, what will be driving the markets today? >> you know, savannah, it can looks like we are seeing a big rebound. the futures are up about 80, 85 points above fair value. this comes after a significant last for the dow yesterday, things are kind of looking ahead to some of data for today. gold prices, we should point out, are back at record highs, ones again. they touched 1,329.60 an ounce. there was a story about how wealthy individuals are buying gold not only by the bar but they are buying it at this point by the ton. that could have been something that is pushing gold prices higher. we got surprising news from the bank of japan. it came out and said it was going to be lowering rates once begin. they were only at 0.1%. now, they are at 0 to 0.1%. it is stunning to hear they are going to be keeping them that low. they plan on keeping lats at those levels until deflation ends. that has been doing some things to the en. good news for exporters. at this point, the yen is off its lowest levels. it is something japan has been look

let's check in with becky quick for a quick check on what's going to happen in the markets today. >> i tell you, first of all, i would not be raising my hand to be the last one out of there. kudos to those guy there is. >> i agree. >> first, please. the markets, it is a holiday for the bond market but the stock markets are open and it's an interesting idea of the fed to continue to ease the monetary policy driving just about every market right now and let's run through some records. stock market futures are higher today, not a lot but a little bit. this is interesting because it comes for the first day of trading after the dow closed above 11,000 since way back to may. also, if you watch what's happening with the dollar, that's a key for us. once again today, the dollar hit a new 15-year low versus the yen. when's maybe more interesting is that people are not betting that the dollar is coming back any time soon. last week, the bets against the dollar topped $30 billion for first time since mid-2008 and significant, as well. 2008 was the height of the financial crisis. as the dollar's

for that, becky quick, we go to here in washington today, co-host of cnbc's "squawk box." there you are in new york. >> i snuck back. >> i snuck back to new york. and, yes, you're right, savannah, the friday jobs number, we're hoping to get any signs of it. we got disappointing hint this is morning in the last hour or so as we heard from adp. they came out with the jobs report. the number was down 39,000. a drop of 39,000 jobs for the month. the market had been expecting a gain of 20,000 to 25,000 jobs. it is disappointing. it showed that construction jobs were down by 28,000, manufacturing lost 17,000. and gains in what they call surprisingly anemic. these are not good indicators. we got the challenger jobs report out earlier this morning. it said that employers announced 30,000 job cut unless september. that sounds bad. but when you look through it, it's the second lowest number of job cut this is year. could be better than expected. the futures are bouncing around on some of this news. the dow and the s&p features are in positive territory. nasdaq futures are a little l

for are that, we're joined by cnbc's becky quick. >> focusing on a big deal that came out early this morning. pfizer will buy king pharmaceuticals for 3.$3.6 billion. that's what we're focusing on this morning. this is a cash deal which is interesting, too. a lot of companies are trying to find places to put their cash to work. the best place seems to be recently at least putting some of that money to work if the terms of deals. we'll watch that. also later today, at 2:00 p.m. we'll be getting the minutes from the last fed meeting. that's interesting because it will give us an idea of where some of the fed governors and presidents are thinking and where they might be thinking in terms of monetary easing, whether that will come sooner or later. that's what's been driving the market all along. after the bell we'll get some more news. earnings news comes out tonight from intel, the big tech company. from csx also, which should give us a good idea of what's happening in the economy. that's what we're focusing on for the rest of the week, some earnings numbers. really it is the deals that
