>> becky, there's absolutely no question about it.etermines the type of vehicles customers buy. and they determine that on the price of gasoline at the moment they buy. not what they think it's going to be, but what it is when they've decided to buy. and look at this. truck sales have gone from 47% of the mix a year and a half ago to now over 55% of the mix. and the trend absolutely continues. so while the customers all say they value fuel economy, unless there's an economic underpinning for that and that's driven by the price of gasoline they are going to be more indulgent around the size of the vehicle that they buy and the speed of the vehicle that they buy. that's just human nature. i'm not saying it's right or wrong, but that's the way the marketplace works. >> so what do you do in terms of stocking the vehicles on your car dealerships? it's got to be a situation where they want to buy based on what the gas prices are that day. are you assuming the gas prices will be low for time to come and as a result you're stocking much more

i'm becky quick with joe kernen. andrew is on assignment today. the january unemployment report is minutes away now. they added 237,000 jobs last month. the unemployment rate is seen falling to 5.5%. we're already at the lowest level in six years of 5.6%. they see it dropping another another .1%. you have average hourly earnings rise by .3%. this could be the 12th straight month of job gains above 200,000 which would be the longest such streak since 1994 and that has people saying the fed is behind the curve and other people say when you look around the world to see what's happening with the strong dollar he they would be crazy to be raising rates but it's a source of continued debate the do you is up more than 4% over the last four days nasdaq is up for the year. the index is on track for the best week since december of 2011 and right now the futures ahead of the report are basically unchanged waiting to see what happens with this s&p futures off by over a point and nasdaq down by two. >> people are now saying can you take the january effect and

becky can, thank you. first in iraq u.s. says it is pushing back the isis onslauth. in syria, not as successful. white house calls it the syria challenge. how does the u.s. get to isis in a country where it seems there is no trust? i have david here with me as a consultant to u.s. governments and u.n. he's met with the leader several times. he's also an author. welcome back. >> thank you. >> you've just returned from trips to lebanon and jordan meeting with stakeholders in this war. can we begin with the notion it's been tough for coalition to hit syria because of intel on the ground. how does jordan carry out air strikes inside bashar assad syria? how do they do that with lack of intel? >> i don't think it's lack of intel. it's very important to the coalition effort. they can hit isis wherever they want. the emphasis has been on iraq because the perception is we have much more of a partner in the governor of iraq than we do in syria. once the situation is taken care of in iraq so to speak, we'll love on to syria. this has been the position of the syrian government.

becky anderson joins us live now from abu dhabi. becky, will there be a feeling now that u.s. regional allies like jordan, like saudi arabia will end up paying too high a price for supporting the united states? >> reporter: i think you make a very good point here. i think it's fair to say that this was a video likely aimed primarily at the arab population in jordan and indeed these gcc allies who play a crucial part in this u.s.-led coalition. this is another brutal act by isis. this time really striking at the heart of jordanian society. citizens had rallied around moath al kasasbeh's cause. he was the first active member of this u.s.-led coalition fighting against isis to be captured by the militant group. he came from a very important tribe in jordan. it seems by killing him, especially in what is this brutal group, isis wants to put pressure on the jordanian government and other governments around here and make it more difficult to remain in this coalition, targeting the group. but remember jordan is a very tribal society. and king abdullah needs the support of those tribe

becky anderson cnn, amman. >>> we should say make no mistake here.hose damaging coalition attacks that becky mentioned, isis remains a powerful and determined force. for example, around the key oil-rich city of kirkuk in iraq kurdish peshmerga forces are dug in desperately trying to hold off an isis offensive against the major city. phil black is on the front line. >> reporter: an ominous symbol declaring a threatening presence. the black flags of isis flying above its fighters' fortifications. this is the view of isis positions from just across a short bridge just behind the defenses of kurdish fighters. they're known as peshmerga, and they're digging in here after isis recently surge north with a major offensive to try and take the city of kirkuk. the isis flag is just there. you see how close the opposing lines are. the kurdish fires repelled the isis attack. they've taken back most of the territory. they tell us that almost every night isis still tests their defenses. and the fighters here believe this in the next few days there's going to be ano

becky is live. if this is just the beginning of the jordanian offensive what else can we expect? >> the mission was named muath the martyr and the aim was to destroy ammunition and training camps run by isis and secondly to send a very, very strong message as promised by the jordanian king that they -- the jordanians will not give up in their fight against the militant group. without divulging any details this is what the foreign minister told cnn just a couple of hours ago. >> it's actually the beginning of our retaliation but not the beginning of our fight against terrorism and extremism. we have been with the current effort for a few weebs. so yes, we are upping the ante. we are going after them with everything that we have. it is not the beginning but it is certainly not the end. >> the question is what happens next. as i said not divulging any military strategy for the days weeks, and months ahead but we are well aware that king abdullah was in washington 72 hours ago. some 20% run by the arab allies. it seems that it's jordan taking the brunt of those doing most of the work
