the bergen county prosecutor just told me that police received a call for a welfare check right around 12:15 today from management at the apartments. when officers arrived they found the woman dead. her husband also there inside the home. police took him into custody. they wouldn't reveal how she died but they think she was dead for at least a day. police and neighbors say it is a real shock to the system. north arlington hasn't had a homicide in more than two decades. >> i've lived here 28 years. we had one homicide about four years after i was hired. so it was probably '93. that was the last one we've had. >> quiet. everybody is friendly with each other. all the neighbors know each other around here. it's a real shock to all of us. >> reporter: that's what a lot of neighbors have been telling me here in the past hours since we got on scene. officers still here working the we have asked about the identities of the victim and her husband in custody. they hope to release that information later tonight. we are going to stay here, work to get that information and talk to more neighbors ou

the threat was made to nine different districts in bergen and passaic counties. nothing has been found and several of the schools have been cleared. but it has created a disruption. new jersey anthony johnson is in fair lawn with the details. >> reporter: we are starting to see many of the students return here to the classrooms in fair lawn but we are seeing a lot of parents picking up students saying they are taking them home for the rest of the day. but here in fair lawn, things are slowly starting to return to normal. but this all began around 9:00 this morning. that's when the calls started coming in shortly after classes started forcing hundreds of high school students in the cold. some were includes serred together, bergenfield, teaneck, neighboring communities. fair lawn, garfield close to each other. the only community outside of bergen county targeted was clifton in passaic county. the schools had to be thoroughly checked before classes could resume. before 11:00 several schools declared the lock down and evacuations were over. school was resuming. at so

the fire quickly caught and just ripped through these buildings out here on bergen street. firefighters rushed to the scene. this was a third alarm fire. there were reports earlier on that firefighters did have some trouble getting out but they were able to pull everybody out of the fire scene. only some minor injuries but a number of people that live inside those buildings have been displaced by this fire. the buildings looked like they're completely destroyed, have been gutted completely. the woman that owned the building here at 212 bergen street told me there had been another fire and the building right next door back in october. she said there was another roofing incident that started a fire and they were still in litigation to try to get money back from that and this is what happened earlier this afternoon. once again, everybody that was in the building, they were able to get out. a lot of people were at work and that was very fortunate of course but they're coming home now to find that their buildings and homes have been destroyed. that's the latest live from newark.
