berkeley hills -- we are based at berkeley hills fire department. have been red tagged homeowners were left -- were told to leave over fears of another mudslide slamming into their homes. yesterday when a wall of mud pushed into a living room of a berkeley hills home. the homeowners at their dog were able to get out safely look that slide is putting other homes in this area in danger. paul chang owns a house below where this mudslide happens. he is one of the five who have been red tagged. >> i am right next to their house. if the money keeps sliding, it will hit my house or david's house. i have tenants who live there and they called and told me they have been evacuated. lena: berkeley fire officials say they are making progress after finding a broken water pipe where the mudslide first started. it is unclear when those red tags might be lifted. officials fear the mud could keep moving downhill in this area. fire officials say residents of nearby neighborhoods have been warned to be ready to leave in the event this does get worse. reporting live in

now to developing news from berkeley. the la times is reporting that berkeley city manager dee williams, riley knew about harassment allegations against the person appointed as interim police chief but did not tell anyone the original report claims that in 2017, the city of berkeley hired an outside law firm to investigate accusations that interim chief jennifer lewis sexually assaulted or other sexually harassed. excuse me. several women alleged victims included a berkeley police officer who accuse lewis of making inappropriate comments at a party. the report also claims lewis was disciplined for violating city policy. the city manager reportedly failed to disclose these allegations to the city council or the police accountability board before appointing lewis berkeley's mayor calls these allegations and concerns saying they cannot be ignored. acts of kindness can come in many forms and a new program in berkeley is cecebrating that by giving away $1000 a month to people doing acts of good. i spoke with the organizers beh

jodi hernandez reports from berkeley. >> reporter: this is what a berkeley couple woke up to this morning. a massive mudslide that made its way inside their home. several neighbors remain evacuated because the mud is still in danger of moving. >> basically, we've been slowly watching this river of dirt and debris shied down the hill and make its progress across our yard. >> reporter: it's a situation the long-time berkeley resident never thought she would be faced with. she and her husband woke up to a nightmare outside their side door. >> he woke up and he was making his coffee and he noticed it was extra dark. he looked out at the door on the side of the house and there was about four feet of mud in front of the door. that's when he realized that we had a major problem. >> reporter: a few hours later, the mud had made its way inside the house. as the dirt moved, firefighters evacuated seven other houses located down hill. >> mud is slow-moving. we don't want to take any risks with ourselves. hopefully it stays safe and everybody stays safe. >> reporter: just a few miles away in the oakl

now we're live this morning in berkeley. i'm james torres. ktvu fox two news, james. thank you.our recent storm damage has really affected roads and the vehicles that use them. a big pothole opened up at the woodside road exit on highway 101 in redwood city. and that was a serious hazard. yesterday morning, more than 25 cars pulled over to the side after hitting that pothole and getting flat tires. some had to be told to repair shops. caltrans says the drivers may not have to pay for repairs if they file an online claim. if you feel your your car was damaged by freeway issue, go ahead and file the claim, and then we'll review the claim and work with you to determine, um if we're at fault, you're going to be compensated or something else has to happen. the form is on the caltrans website. you'll need the date time and location of where the damage happened. you can also upload photos to back up your claim. in the meantime, the chp reminds us all to watch for debris and potholes on the roads. to be back at work today, cleaning up a mudslide that blocked part of highway one year dev
