the berkeley city council today will debate changing the city's building codes in hopes of makingcal balconies safer and also preventing another deadly balcony collapse. brian flores joining us live now. you are in berkeley with some details of the ideas to be debated tonight, brian. >> and these ideas came from just after a huge public outcry calling for stricter building regulations on balcony construction. there are three agenda items regarding the balcony s that the berkeley city council will consider tonight. the first comes from the planning and development director. the plan calls for several changes to the current building code. now, along with calling for balconies to be made with more durable materials like corrosion treated steel, the changes would require the changes within six months and then every five years after that. the next two proposals are from interest councilman jessie. one of them call for required steel reinforcement in all buildings throughout the state. the councilman has drafted a letter to the california building standards commission asking for the change.
