i'm joined now from hamilton, in bermuda, by toni waterman from the bermuda broadcasting company. forjoining us. what kind of impact will hurricane florence have on bermuda? well, i rate now... we are about two hours away from florence's closest approach to the island, which is going to be about 300 nautical miles to the south of the island and you can notice in the last hour or so there has really been this uptick in there has really been this uptick in the wind speed. i was on my bike coming home from work, this is a way that most people get around, and their motor scooters, and it was one of those really strengthen your arms and hold on tight could arise because the wind speeds have really picked up. but when you look at the actual impact, we are not expecting actual impact, we are not expecting a lot of rainfall. we are expecting some big sea swells, so right now the bermuda weather service is saying that to the south, as the storm passes, we could see waves building up to a height of 16 feet on the northern part of the island. we could see waves that touch about nine feet. so

you mentied just south of bermuda, south and west of bermuda right now. still churning in the atlantic as a category 4 hurricane. it hasn't changed all that much from the 8:00 or 5:00advisory. winds of 140 miles an hour. still well aw, miles away from the coastline. pressure up jus a little bit at 940 millibars. here is the latest track. he it's even farther to south. yesterday at this time, the cone of uncertainty was all the north of washington, d.c. now it's well to the south of washington. cape hatteras no longer in the cone of uncertainty, but this storm is gng to still come very close to cape hatteras. going to give them a wallop there at a category3, category 4 storm, 130 miles per hour, inland at 110 miles per hour saturday. and then all the way back to atlanta, the cone of uncertainty huge here. not exactly sure what this storm is going to do once it comes towards the coast. it's going to sit for days and that's going to prompt a lot of flooding. we continue to see the coastal flood warnings in and around the d.c. area. alexandria, st. mary's cou

our current track run south of bermuda.se by the time itmove sout from bermuda, this isn't until thursday morning. they're still plenty of time for this to move. the one thing that is certain, this will be moving over very warm water and that's what will allow this to fuel.hurricane take water temperatures of 80 agrees. you're looking at spots sitting at 85 degrees, that's more than warm enough to make a very powerful storm. that's why we're looking at this running up to a category for in the next several days. the store models, there's a lot of time for this to move so there's a lot of friday. most of them run it up the east coast. several have it turning out toward bermuda. that's because this is coming into thursday of next week so it's still a ways off. two of our favorite models, the euro and the gfs, we do have time to watch this play out. it's no surprise you're beginning to see this activity. it's been so quiet so far, but right now on september 8, the historical peak of tropical activity happens september 10 so we

and is southwest of bermuda.nteresting florence made the move. let's talk about today back at home. we're wet here today and we're staying cool. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. this is how thead looks today and tomorrow. stalled frontal system to the south. that will lift north as a warm front but we'll continue to see rain today andtomorrow. high pressure bringing in easterly/northeasterly wind so that moisture off the atlantic is moving into our area and we're looking at low clouds, fog and rain so watch when you head out there, the visibility is cu low. ent temperatures low, too. 50s and 60s. it's chilly o there. we are making it to 66 if we are lucky in d.c. elsewhere may not get out50 of e so showers at times, moderate rain at times. georgetown today will be wet, d.c. state fair will be wet. even the nats game, redskins game, ravens game will be wet so rain wil push through the region. tomorrow morning when you wake up and get the kids ready for school, foggy conditions, conditions, ponding on the roadways.

as of now it looks to go south of bermuda. yesterday looked like a closer call for bermuda.t for bermuda. you don't like the direction it is heading when you see eastern north carolina sticking out like a sore thumb. this is our american model. come thursday morning, it has it dangerously close to mid atlantic and southern new england. the european model has it along the carolina coast. anywhere on the east coast is subject. we will look at the spaghetti lines, over the next week we will look at these. had is the american model. we tweak it because we don't know the atmosphere perfectly. these lines show potential paths. the american model is a little further off-shore. unfortunately the spaghetti lines for the european model are almost all into the east coast. we will see how it plays out, but this weekend time to prepare and get to the store for your hurricane supplies which you should have had at the beginning of the season anyway. >> i always ask this, which has more accuracy rate, the american or european model? >> the european model. their computers are stronger. >> br

still south of bermuda. here is the track it's going to make.t stays a category 4 storm as it heads closer to the u.s. coast. there is a lot of warm water there and that's going to fuel this and only strengthen it. now, what is the timing going to be with this system as it approaches the coast? i'm taking you now to thursday morning and you are sitting just off the coast. a situation will be deteriorating by then. likely making landfall either thursday afternoon or in to the overnight hours. still a ways off it could speed up or slow down. we are tracking the timing of this very closely as it moves that direction. the speed, the intensity of this storm is going to be there. the wind speeds 130 miles per hour up to 156 miles per hour. staying a category 4 storm likely on the high end of this. wouldn't be surprised if when it made landfall we are up close to 150 mile-per-hour winds as there is a lot of fuel in the area for this. typically you don't see a storm that's sitting this far off towards bermuda, making its way all the way to the u.s. coas
