the san jose city council has unanimously approved the berryessa bar urban village project. the project will include millions of square feet, a mixed use space and more than 3000 homes. under the deal, the flea market will lose 10 acres of space and likely many of the 430 vendors, but the landowners will put $5 million into a fund to help transition vendors to a new market. also in san jose, union workers set up 700 white chairs in front of city hall today to make a point about staffing shortages. workers say the chairs represent all the union positions that are unfilled in the city about 300 workers also rallied with signs and chants outside city hall as the city council was meeting inside on a different matter. union employees are in negotiations with the city over pay, staffing and other issues. people are tired over the last year and a half for going out and working, putting our lives on the line for the city and the city council and the mayor, not recognizing that. workers tell us they don't agree with the city's proposed 5% pay increase. they say they want a 7% pay hik
