joining me now, congressman beto o'rourke, democrat from texas.or perry says border patrol is too occupied and overwhelmed dealing with the children and dealing with their moms so the guard is going to backfill the role of standing forward to make sure criminals and bad guys don't run over the border. what's so wrong about that? >> you know, the border patrol are doing an excellent job in texas and don't need the national guard. the border between the u.s. and mexico and texas has never been safer. i know a lot of people don't want to believe that, but if you look at the numbers, in 2000 we had 1.6 million apprehensions. last year we had a little over 400,000. i rep the safest city in america today, el paso, texas, largest truly binational city on the u.s./mexico border. and if it's these kids the governor is scared about, in june we had about 350 kids trying to enter the u.s. on average, per day. as of last week, the number is down to 150. so any way you want to look at this, whether it's the amount that we're spending on the border which is $18
