betsy, to you. you have a president with a rocky meeting with nato leaders from the get go, even before it started, a u.s. official tells nbc news the pentagon went into damage control, so how does that come into play with vladimir putin meeting with the president? >> tension within nato is music to putin's ears. one of his top priorities is seeing that crucial transatlantic alliance be undermined, and that's what we saw unfold over the course of the president's visit to the nato summit. in fact, it all kind of culminated in this very unusual closure of the summit when president trump said publicly he'd gotten these significant concessions from nato leaders, that they agreed to increase defense spending and he'd been able to walk away with this big win and that comment was subsequently followed up by and countered by emmanuel macron who said it wasn't true, that rather nato countries were on the same track they'd been on, maintaining the same commitments they kept about the percentages of their gdps

betsy, you read about this. what are your sources telling you? >> on the evening last week when the michael cohen audiotape was being rolled out and received wall-to-wall coverage across all three cable news networks, the president actually hurled expletives at the television because he was deeply frustrated to see this report come out, to see these news stories emerge. so what we can tell you without a doubt is this is something that is really disturbing and rattling to president trump and it's something he's very concerned about. what i can also tell you is that the president's outside allies hounded by rudy giuliani are engaged and prepared to ramp up their attacks on michael cohen. for them michael cohen's liability is a huge liability. we don't expect to see the attacks on michael cohen's credibility coming from current white house officials. they'll try to keep their hands clean with things coming out of there. you heard giuliani say michael cohen actually had done many bad things. of course those bad things likely would be presumably at th

betsy, let's talk about the politics of all this.know there's a list of democrats who are joining the abolish ice movement. >> your reporting, they're pushing back against this idea. tell us how and why, especially when you hear the president saying he wants to see democrats call for the abolishment of ice because he thinks that's a winning issue for the republicans. >> it certainly is an issue that divides the country. one reason they put together some fairly comprehensive talking points late last week is that they wanted to make the case that their caucus is focused more on changing overall immigration policy, changing the laws themselves rather than focus on trying to retool reinvent or reform or abolish the agency that is responsible for enforcing immigration policy. additionally, a point that the congressional hispanic caucus made on the talking points is that ice doesn't just do immigration enforcement. it also does lots of international crime, it deals with child trafficking and cybersecurity matters. so within the agency, we
