steve kornacki is back at the big board with the latest. what have you got, steve? >> yeah, we do have in ohio, the polls closing just about right now. in fact, you see that on the screen right there. and the nbc news characterization of that issue one, which would put the right to an abortion in the state constitution and allow for a limit after fetal viability, the decision desk is saying too early to call, but yes is leading on that. that is -- remember, ohio is the one state we have an exit poll in tonight. we're going to look in a minute for returns to tart coming in from ohio. taking look at the situation in the kentucky governor's race, one-third of the vote is in. the overall tally state-wide, beshear almost ten points ahead of cameron. i think a couple things are starting to stand out. one is just we're talking about you get full results from counties, how is he doing relative to how he did in '19? because he barely won in '19. is he at or above the levels of 2019. we're starting to see counties getting close to being all in. starting to see a bit of a patt

steve kornacki is at the big board. e, set the table for us as we look ahead to the results this evening. >> four big states. you mentioned a couple. let's start in virginia. it's all about the state legislature there, which right now is split. the republicans control the lower house, the house of delegates. the democrats control the upper house, the state senate. glenn youngkin wants control of both to move his agenda. massive sums of money have been spent in these state legislative campaigns. shows you the stakes certainly. as you mentioned, one of the issues that's been driving the campaign in virginia has been the issue of abortion. youngkin wants it legal up to 15 weeks with exceptions after for rape, incest and danger to the mother's life. he thinks that in the post-roe landscape is the winning position for republicans. they have been struggling to find a unified position on this. he thinks it's a winning position in virginia. he thinks it's one that can be exported to other states for republicans. it was tested in

steve kornacki joins us from the big board. looking forward to the recap of some of the victories. we were focusing in on kentucky yesterday and what the governor there needed to do. it was kind of a growth pattern for the governor there. >> yeah, beshear who had barely won this governorship in 2019 expanded on what he won, he won by 5,000 votes four years ago, about .4. this is now going to be a five-point victory for andy beshear, a 70,000 vote margin. we improved in what we were talking about yesterday was that beshear had already in 2019 won and done well in some areas where democrats at the federal level, presidential candidates, don't. in 2020, joe biden had won two out of the 120 counties in kentucky. last night, andy beshear won 26 of the 120 counties in kentucky. i think what is most notable really is when you start to look at this portion of the state, the eastern part of the state, traditionally what has been coal country in kentucky, if you went back a generation or two, overwhelmingly democratic in these areas, but in the last 20 or so years, they have completely swung

let's go back to steve kornacki on election night at the big board. steve, what's the score? for control of the virginia state legislature. let's start with that. on the state side again, coming into tonight, democrats lead, controlled chamber 22 to 18, now the associated press as cole 20 seats for democrats. they need 21 telluride majority in control of the chamber because a 2020 tie, the republican lieutenant governor would break the tie for the republicans. so the democrats are really on the cusp of maintaining control here, with four seats uncalled in the saints tenet, two of those seats are held by democratic incumbents. one of them in a very tight race, the other as a lead with a lot of the voting in. either one of those goes to the democrats or one of the other, to for that, matter fairly close as well. and one of those four outstanding goes for the democrats. they maintain control of the state senate. remember, glenn youngkin, virginia republicans, their goal was to take back the state senate, and the general house a delegate side, 50 to 48 republicans coming in tonig
