let's check in with bill martin and see what we need to be concerned about this weekend. >> definitelye've been talking about the fire danger increasing and that's because it's going to be hot tomorrow. temperatures will go into the triple digits. most likely it'll be the highest temperatures we've seen this season. 101, 103 in the central valley. we go out toward concord and we can check out some of the wind gauges. right near pittsburgh, -- pittsburg, we have winds gusting to eight. the winds are really light in this area east of south of livermore down in this area where my cursor is. typically this time of night it's howling. the winds are light, the etch the -- the temperatures are not that high. and there's a red flag warning that goes into effect in the next few hours. the humidity drops to 30%. that's the north bay hills i would not be surprised if the east bay hills would get themselves a red flag warning as well. the high heat is definitely an issue. i think that's why they got such a quick handle on it. rasmussen just gave us the idea that they are 60% contained out there wh

ktvu's chief meteorologist bill martin joins us live, tracking a cool start to summer. >> i had the heatern in my car today. >> so did i. >> couple days ago mid-90s. temperatures down 30 degrees. the fog is still out there. the low clouds towards the east bay. the winds pushed the cool, moist air inland and that is why we are seeing temperature swings. and it was hot a few days ago and now we are not. take a look. this is wednesday. yesterday. look where we are today. livermore, more than 20 degrees. san jose down to 67 degrees today. as we go through time, we knew it would get cold. i didn't think it would go 30 degrees. livermore made it 30 degrees. as we move into tomorrow we have a chance of a shower in the north bay. some showers could head south. today we had the 15-20-degree cool down. as we head into tomorrow, the weather system gets closer to us. a frontal system and we have a chance for morning drizzle and a chance of a shower with a mild pattern that continues through the weekend. tomorrow, showers. early tomorrow morning, you see the activity, as it moves, you will see sprinkle

i just took a peek at bill martin's iso therm map and it's all red. i any that means it's going to heat up. >> yes, things will heat up. we are back into a very hot forecast. the fog cleared from the coast. take a look at live tracker storm 2 and you are looking at the fog that got pushed south. we have gail warnings offshore and that chews up the fog. the winds will back off tonight and that fog will fill back in along the coast. tomorrow will be like today these are the highs for today and similar highs tomorrow except 91 in antioch in the upper 80s. most will be in the mid-80s. rest of us in the mid-70s along the coast, going to be chilly in the morning and sub clearing in the afternoon. temperatures along beaches, upper 50s, maybe a couple of low 50s. tomorrow just like today. the long range forecast is including major warming. forecast model for fog shows its return and shows it shoot can inland. not a major extent. you don't have all nine bay area counties with fog. that means that cool air is getting inland. you see the fog, there should be fog

bill martin is in the weather center with the cool down that we're expecting that's moving in, bill. >> reporter: if you're a firefighter in the bay area, you're loving the fog that we're seeing offshore. it's cooling things off. of course that lessons the fire danger but it's game on for fire season. this is the time of year, usually a little later than this that it gets a little bad. with the alum rock situation, but we're basically looking at fog coming in and we're looking at a dry summer. it's a mediterranean climate that means dry summer, wet winter. get used to it that's the way it goes every year. we may not see much rain from now to october. with that, fire danger is high. if the winds go bad like they did you will get a red flag warning. a warmer forecast into the weekend. i wouldn't be surprised if on sunday we recreate the situation which we had last weekend. winds are going to go northeast in places. overnight lows are going to be mild. these were the highs from today. 95 in santa rosa, 87 in fairfield. they were cooler than yesterday. they're going to be cooler as we he

let's check in with mark tamayo who is in for our chief meteorologist bill martin today. >> warmer temperaturesn the forecast as we head into friday and especially by the weekend. you will notice the change. right now, we have mostly clear skies. in the clear with the fog bank to the south, as we shift the maps to the north. clearing skies. and a breeze out there, winds 15-20 miles per hour. as far as current, numbers just updated, temperatures right now ranging from the low 60s in san francisco to the mid-70s in san jose. warmest locations in the 80s, concord and the fairfield area. tomorrow morning, mostly clear skies. some patchy fog coast side, and temperatures friday morning most areas in the low 50s. forecast model showing the clouds on the increase. 7:00 friday morning. as we put this into motion, lots of sunshine. this is something different for friday, 90s build back in. so we will break it down. 7:00, patchy fog. more sunshine by 3:00. temperatures in the upper 60s to 70 degrees. around the bay, lots of sunshine. temperatures warm up to the 80s but the sea breeze returns into the afte

. >> over to bill martin, we saw fog just a few moments ago. >> that will be the factor for cooling this weekend. highs the last couple of days they've been up there. we had mid-90s the last few days. temperatures tomorrow we'll be mostly in the 80s. temperatures are coming down mainly because of the fog right along the coast. you can see it here. let's go to redwood city, you can check out the wind sensor, you can see it's blowing. that's an on shore wind, when it blows that direction it increases humidity and drops temperatures. you may not see the fog, when we talk about marine air we're not only talking about the fog. the fog is marine air. but when you get the cool winds blowing inland you don't have to have fog to cool things off. because it is just cooler air. overnight we have the coastal fog, it's going to be pushing a little bit inland. more so on sunday. tomorrow fog will get, alcatraz over to berkeley, over to oakland. sunday fog is going to get out to livermore. it's going to get out toward the walnut creek area. high pressure is where it sits right now. sort of vacates a li

bill martin is here. are we done with all the wet weather? >> yeah, most of the rain has moved out of the area now, you mentioned june rain, we do get rain in june about 30% of the time. that's what we got to do, up to two tenths of an inch of rain in some places. let take a look at live stormtracker 2. you're going to see green on the radar. there it is right there. you can see we've got showers up in the mountains. a winter weather advisory in lake tahoe. most of the showers have moved out of our area. up in the mountains, they're seeing snow. above 6,000 feet, they could see, 4, 5, inches of snow. it's windy up there as well. we're going to talk about a warm up coming your way in a few minutes. >>> the rain in the bay area turned into snow in the sierra. ken pritchett is at donner tonight. it looks like winter behind you. >> reporter: it does indeed. you can see light snow coming down. about a half hour ago, it was snowing much harder than this. you look at the ground here, none of this snow was here this morning, say around 10:00 or 11:00

let's go to bill martin with how the conditions are affecting firefighting. >> this day wasn't saturday when we had the red flag warning. fire conditions this time of year are high but this particular day the winds aren't aren't that strong, and the humidity not that low. you can see the heat in the central valley. there are the 90s. most of us in the 70's. wnw is a west wind. west northwest. it's blowing moist cool air on shore. firefighters had a bit of a helping hand from nature. the current temperatures, fairfield at 91, san rafael, if this was 48 hours ago or beyond when it was very hot and the red flag warning it would be another story. here is the deal. this just shows where we are. we are in the dry summer part of it it. we are heading for fire season. when the winds come up and the temperatures come up on a day like today we would have had real problems. fortunately the weather cooperated. when i come back we will talk about a bit of a warm up and a cooldown. >> a frightening situation today after a boat with three people on board exploded on the river near antioch and alex is

. >>> we're feeling some of that warmth our chief meteorologist bill martin talked to us about yesterdaythere's more in store. >> reporter: as we head to tomorrow we're going to see temperatures going back up 5 degrees. we're not going to have red flag warnings, we're not going to have poor air quality. this pattern is very favorable for firefighters. this is keeping things nice and fresh, nice and cool. the áf it's clear out at the coast, you say to yourself, when the coast is clear usually it's hot around here. in in case the coast is clear not because of the on shore winds, the coast is clear because of the low pressure center that's to the north of us that has lifted that inversion. the fog can't exist without a high pressure system sitting there. we're in the nice kind of middle of the road weather pattern. there's no extremes, just right down the middle. as we head into tomorrow, a little bit warmer and a little warmer again as we head into thursday. it's not going to get hot. slightly cooler as we head into the bay area weekend. it dips back into a cooler pattern. so the fog forec

bill martin tells us about the heat and will walker will join us with a red flag wanning. first we go to eric on the frontlines of that wildfire in the east bay. >> reporter: the frontlines of the investigation, investigators have been focusing on the area behind me. we brought another light out here tonight to show you what we are talking about. a pg&e worker said he thinks somebody, possibly a truck hit a phone line. that's the lower thicker of these lines and somehow just maybe that caused these power lines to spark and it could have been enough to start awful the dry brush and grass out here. what started as a small brush fire just outside a park this afternoon quickly spread to hundreds of acres up this hillside and convinced some to the park to get out. >> i saw a lot of smoke. it didn't look good. >> reporter: chopper 2 caught the view from the arias crews cal fire and other local departments rushed to get the fire surrounded and knocked down. even though no homes were immediately threatened, firefighters say they couldn't afford to let this fire get away from them.
