we will begin with meteorologist kate bilo in the "eyewitness weather" center. kate?> chris, it's been couple of rough nights across the delaware valley. last night frequent lightning over 10,000 lightning strikes tonight it was mostly the wind that played a major role in damage reports all across the region and you can see we still have storms coming through at this hour moving through new england and right down into portions of delaware. that's front also interacting with hurricane arthur, category two preparing to make landfall through the outerbanks of north carolina. let's zoom in closer on our region and as you can see we do have some storms that are now starting that refire across the area. not so much severe but heavy rain with these and even the risk for some hail. you can see it over kent county and lifting into south jersey. wee zoom in quickly on kent county, delaware. ing see that storm right over dover right now and there is a hail signature with it so the chance this is producing hail also heavy rain right along route 13 and some lightning and again thi

we will start with meteorologist kate bilo and thunderstorms pushing through right now, kate. >> it is repeat performance of what we saw last night, strong storms developing off to the west and moving through the philadelphia area, right around night fall. so we can expect that. you can see front coming through and interaction with the advancing trough and hurricane arthur hoping to push arthur further are north and east and see how band of showers and storms are developing that rotation around the storm off to the south. pretty amazing thing to see there that interacting. lot at storms to the west. you can see a lot of lightening and just like last night they are starting to connect, this over lancaster county and heavy rain here. look at lightning southern lancaster county and headed for chester county at the moment. that is storm we just track heading toward maryland and first spot it will stop in our neck of the woods will be across chester county over 280 lightening strikes in that one section of lancaster county. so some very strong wind, very heavy rain, and, again, frequent and

meteorologist, kate bilo, has more on some of the reasons why. >> since arthur on the fourth every julyh from the tropics. now have area of disturbed weather that we're keeping very close eye on, a wave that came off the coast of africa, and has pretty good chance of becoming tropical depression number three, and eventually, most likely, tropical storm bertha. the second named storm of our 2014 atlantic hurricane season. pretty quiet season so far. bertha will have some problems as the storm continues to move further to the west. the system will be encountering an area of some pretty intense winds shears, continues to move to the west, but water temperatures are warm, so warm water, again, leads to storm development. but the shear could threaten to tear this system apart. so it has got to get through that, possibly diverting north of that area of intense wind shear. also, seeing a lot of dry air over portions of the open central atlantic here, a lot of this as dust that could try to work its way into the disturbance, that is continues to move eastward, perhaps, try to rip it apart befor

meteorologist kate bilo is in storm center with the latest and both. kate? >> thank you jessica. yeah, july starting off very busy in the weather department. we've got tropical storm arthur here is the latest satellite loop of arthur. this is all afternoon and you can see the intensification of this storm you can see how it's starting to wrap around an eye is beginning to develop with arthur and almost stationary at this hour. it will eventually move up the eastern seaboard. the hardest hit area will be portions of the carolinas, coming up in just bit i'll show you the latest new track from the national hurricane center that was just relea tracking that is not the correct graphic there we are tracking some very hot weather coming in as we head through the next couple of days. a heat index of 100 to 105 degrees for the entire area this will be from noon until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow afternoon and if you're in that heat advisory area mainly philadelphia and surrounding suburbs, temperatures will reach the mid 90s, eat index values around 100 degrees perhaps as-as 105 or 10 sick. drink p

we will begin with meteorologist kate bilo, kate. >> reporter: thanks, jessica and chris.ng storms to show you on storm scan three. you can see the line extending from new england right down into maryland and virginia and we are right in the middle on have that with storms really breed nothing this hot, humid environment. they love heat and moisture. boy do we have plenty on have. that lets zoom in and see where storms are right now. these two cells almost starting to come together as one here, extending from berks county down to lancaster county this could form a line and move in chester, montgomery counties within the next hour or so. keep an eye on. that lets zoom in closer, you can see red and orange shadings show heavy rainfall. we are seeing a little break in the action right around reading proper but still a lot of heavy rain and frequent lightening across eastern berks county right now, 556 lightening strikes just in the past frame of radar there. so severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the entire area through 9:00 o'clock tonight. we are talking about downpours

but first lets start with kate bilo in the weather center, kate. >> it looks like kathy has more fun stuff behind her. can't wait to see what she's doing there sunnies trying to come out down the shore. it started out cloudy and glummy. look the at satellite and radar. watch how clouds erode from west to east. i want to draw your tension to right here do you see how clouds have that effect rippled effect that is an indication of cool air in the upper atmosphere pushing down and suppressing any cloud or thunderstorm development to the south. good thing that is in place. you can see storms that are month moving through richmond and norfolk an area with the deadly tornado earlier this morning. lets look at our temperature swing. it was a comfortable start to the week, sunday 82. monday still below normal at 86. we went above average on tuesday to 88. wednesday, yesterday all the way to 92 but today we had a sharp drop off back to 83. that is similar to the weeks new days will look like. we will only sharply drop back down as we get in the middle of next week. temperatures across the reg
