black sailors are reading black newspapers and writing back to them. and there's an incident in 1909 when a fleet of warships docks in new york. they a parade and while the black presidents note that there's no white people in the parade and they know there's black sailors on the ships, so they ask kind of what's going on? they write a letter, actually, to the navy department. the navy department sends a letter back saying. of course, there's like sailors in the navy. you know they're talking about all the things they're allowed to do. but it wasn't rooted in any kind of reality. and so on that, the paper received a couple of different letters from. blacks, those who were serving in the fleet in 1910, kind of explaining what their life was like. one guy i'm going to paraphrase here talks about how, you know, there's more discrimination navy than the rest of the u.s., which is pretty striking to say. he talks about how only black sailors or blacks is only allowed to as stewards and really terrible of heaving coal. and it steamships talks about how they

, young black men earlier? >> well, if you look at what's going on at the biden-harris administration, the policies, they have been focused directly on people of color, particularly young black men and hispanic men and women as well. but the thing that is really encouraging to me, victor, is this is an unprecedented investment of $25 million very early on in the campaign with a little less than a year out to specifically focus on this constituency group. so while the numbers are still early, i think those numbers will get better. polling this early really doesn't necessarily dictate what the outcome will be. but i know that if you look at the biden record of success, particularly around the economy, encouraging black men to basically give them the resources they need to provide for their families, things involving public safety, and also embracing entrepreneurship, if you look at the number of small businesses, an unprecedented number of small businesses that have been created by black and latino businesses. i

the median black household held $24,100 in wealth. white households had 7.8 times more wealth than blacks. in 2020, whites made up 60% of the us population, but held 84% of the total household wealth. base, black households, who constituted 13.4% of the us population, held 4% of the total household wealth. white households inherit over 5.3 times more than black households, and white households are 2.8 times more likely than black households to inherit any wealth. well, we're going to dig into this issue further with our first guest, cam howard. cam howard is a reparation expert who has been fighting for decades to get reparations for black americans. he has addressed the united nations and has traveled the world presenting the case for reparations for african-americans. he is an administrator for encobra, the national coalition of blacks for reparations in america. thanks so much for being with us, do you think the black americans should get reparations, and if so why? so i certainly believe that blacks and... this country should get

it would save 3 million black lives a year because, when you improve the economic conditions of blacke, you improve their health outcomes. these are the issues that the congressional black caucus are working on, along with the black economic alliance, the national urban league, the national action network, the naacp, and others. because we understand economic justice is social justice in this moment. >> now, you and several members of the cbc war in atlanta this week to tour and affordable housing context -- complex -- recently opened up in the city's book a neighborhood. it and cooperated retail space and community gardens with more than 140 residential units, many of them subsidized for homeless and at risk precedence. what can you tell us about this project? >> i want to thank representative mike emote williams for identifying this project. one of the biggest issues our constituents talk to us about across the country's that need to provide more access to affordable housing. whether it's in my home state of nevada in las vegas, where rates have increased 30% since 2019, or communit
