blake burman.hose of you just tuning in, nearly 300 plus point gain on the dow has reversed itself. we swung the other way on news the president wants to slap tariffs on every remaining chinese good that we get into this country. that's pretty much what it comes down to, beginning on september 1st, everything we get from china will be the subject to at least a 10% tariff, some as many as 25%. when i came on this show, we had 28 of the dow 30 stocks in the green. right now, the trade-sensitive ones, intel comes to mind, dow comes to mind, boeing, united technologies, apple by extension, goldman sachs with exposure there, caterpillar, all, all have gone into the red. in the case of goldman, in the case of caterpillar, by a fairly steep amount. that is disproportionately the dow. interest rates tumbling as investors park their money in bonds, convinced if this continues, it's going to lead to a slowdown. you know how hot and cold this goes. but this is in direct response to the trade thing. it has not

blake burman with the latest. why oil prices are doing so well, related stocks are doing well. at is going on, blake? reporter: this is proposed rule unveiled by the environmental protection agency a little while ago, that intends to roll back some of the regulation on methane put in on the obama administration in 2012 and 2016. epa will regulate storage and transmission of methane. this is response to executive order president trump signed, looking at unnecessary regulations, or at least what the administration views as unnecessary regulations. the epa says this will help oil and natural gas industry save 17, $19 million a year. around 97, to $123 million through 2025. andrew wheeler saying in a statement, quote, epa proposal delivers on president trump's executive order, removes, unnecessary, duplicative regulatory burdens from the oil and gas industry. some big cast companies said they don't want these regs to be rolled back at all. that is pointed out by greenpeace says in a statement, quote, rolling back these regulations will have catastrophic consequences for generations.

from here, we go to blake burman, with the latest on all the back and forth at the white house. hi, blake? reporter: we heard from president trump for a while, he feels china wants to make a deal. they need to make a deal very badly. he reiterated that earlier today. the market swung earlier today when the president said that china called over the weekend and said they wanted to get back to the negotiating table. here's the issue with that. when china's foreign minister was asked about these calls that were made. they disputed the notion there were any sort of calls being made. when, at least over the weekend. when the treasury secretary steve mnuchin was asked about it earlier today, sitting alongside the president he jumped in said there had been quote communication through intermediaries. president trump was asked about that at that press conference just a little while ago, what exactly is the status of these calls? did they happen, between who and et cetera? this was the response from the president with the treasury secretary steve mnuchin jumping in at one point. watch here.
