i wanted to think about the blog post here as blog posts that made up the book and think about how blogs in particular may be changing the constitutional debate. with really the material in this book being the one example, maybe the first example, first public example of how this might happen. what led me to think about the book is what is i happen to have the book on my desk the same time i had an article about yale, emeritus professor at university of michigan who's a real giant in the academic field, and the procedure, in the 1960s when he was a young academic he wrote a series of law the articles really rethinking some of the basic understanding of the nature of constitutional criminal procedure which been very narrow up to that point. he came along and said i think we are reading these cases wrong. i think we're reading the history wrong. i think we should start to think about a new role for the supreme court. he lay down in a sears of articles published in traditional journals, in some cases and chapters in books, new ways of thinking about constitutional possibilities. for example

blogging is scholarship. it could be i suppose as they have legal hearings and that is not the scholarship but it's totally unique. generally speaking, we are utilizing the information -- the knowledge and expertise that we have developed in the real scholarship in the sense in the books and we are putting it to use. what it does allow us to do is write better than we might have written in the long form of the articles. and i couldn't get the place in the newspaper until i started blogging because i kept writing in the sort of inverted way that wouldn't appeal to the newspaper audiences and once i started blogging i got a different place and i was able to publish. so it does enable us to reach a larger audience if we develop the place that allows us to do that. >> i agree with everything i would also say it is a somewhat unusual thing for academics to do and it is surprising to me that for the influence that they are having and the profile that they have in the relative articles it's a small number of academi

what happened was that the gossip blogs -- not the blogs, but the gossip magazines, said that mineo wasilled by his gay lover. or by a drug scandal. there was no validity in that except that he knew he was gay and partied once every now and then. he was not an addict or anything. later a woman called police and said, my boyfriend, who is now in jail for another crime, was bragging when those news stories about sal mineo's murder came out. he was bragging that he killed him. he brought the apartment and mineo walked in at the wrong moment and the wrong time. he stabbed him. this man was convicted in mineo's murder. it was over 30 years ago. still people i talk to think that i did a movie about sal mineo -- "didn't his lover kill him?"
