new year in 2024. haslinda: thank you. plenty more ahead. keep it here with us. this is bloomberg: they say what goes up must come down, the case for treasury yields. we have 10-year yields surging past 5%. it is finding its way down right now on the back of the fed, standing pat, and perhaps suggestions that it is done tightening. in terms of bond yields, 10-year yield trending at 4.5% at this point in time. there has been a lot of disparity in terms of how markets are viewing the future of yields. ubs saying yields will get to 3.5% by june next year when the fed starts to pull back in terms of tightening. but we have the lights of barclays seen 10 year yields -- likes of barclays same 10 year yields could go back up to 5% because the fed is possibly not done. futures pointing to a flat open. s&p closed today up about 2%. rishaad: just checking what is going on with regional equity markets. these are the movers on the asia-pacific index, excluding japan. it is culture day there, so they are on a public holiday. four -- quite a broad-based move to the upside. 1037 stocks on the wa

he's a legal reporter for bloomberg news. ryan goodman also with us, the co-editor in chief of just security, former special counsel at the d.o.d. so, eric, take us inside that room. >> well, there was a lot of anticipation, of course, as trump was entering the courtroom. he was flanked by his lawyers and secret service. he walked very slowly, had a sullen look on his face. it's kind of hunched over as he got on the witness stand. and it started out fairly slowly, he was answering the questions succinctly. it went on like that for a few minutes. but then it kind of just went off the rails after that. i think it's safe to say, as was mentioned, the judge at one point threatened to throw him off the witness stand. so, once that happens, you've got this problem going on with the witness. the defense team was asked by the judge maybe you need to take some time and talk about how to keep trump in line with the rules, and his lawyer said, you know, he's the former president of the united states, maybe the future president. he knows

ken griffin raised concerns about spending the bloomberg new economy forum.n to what he had to say on inflation and how it could impact real rates for the fed. ken: if we are looking at a 2% or 3% baseline, the fed will have any is your job in the u.s. this struggle has been to hit a 2% target. there is a variety of reasons you want, level of background inflation, it helps to the wheels of commerce -- to lubricated the wheels of commerce. that number being 2%, they are going to fight hard to keep that as the target for a litany of good reasons. it also means that we are likely to see higher real rates and higher nominal rates and that will have a real application on the cost of funding our enormous deficit. the uss 33 trillion dollars of debt outstanding. we did not plan for an era of higher nominal and real rates when we went on a spending spree. matt: sonali basak joins us now. very interesting to hear. i have heard a number of other people in past days saying previously we had a 2% percent -- a 2% inflation ceiling, now it is going to be a floor. the whole
