in addition to being co-chair of the board, i'm also a writer, photographer, and i sit on other boards. and community housing partnership, i do community organizing. i'm also a consumer. i'm also someone who has used the city's mental health services. in fact, if those services weren't there for me when i needed them, i wouldn't be here today to even be able to talk to you. i wouldn't have been able to get onto any boards or commissions. i wouldn't have been able to do the kind of community work i do. i would have been sitting in a deep, dark depression, homeless, not functioning, self-indulgent, no good to myself or anyone else. but some kind of spark of life came to me during those dark days and i walked into a community clinic and i asked for help, and i got help. and through a very long, slow process of recovery, i was able to pull myself out of the darkness and get to the point where i could actually give back to the community. and as you have heard from so many of the speakers today, so many people have been helped by these community services. and i know they're threatened and i

my name is claire and i'm a former member of the health service board. i'm a member of pov and vice president of the seiu retirees. i am here to thank all of you again and thank supervisor farrell for bringing us on board early and for helping us to secure our retiree cost -- health care costs in the future. i am here to support what sharon johnson brought up. we had discussions and considerations about maybe strengthening that prudent standard with regard to the gasby actuary and looking at putting in a protection that says the sub fund must be two thirds funded before anything can be considered for withdraw and maybe even to consider adding the timeline as well. that might be a more prudent safe guard that we really mean we want this safe guarded. we want it protected and limited in the future for whatever the city might need, and we understand that we talked about difficult budgetary times that would perhaps open the door to drawing on these sub funds earlier than sooner and that is basically what we're here to suggest today if there is time for furth

the board of appeals posted. we honestly believed that we did not need to respond to this letter signed in the manner prescribed in order to strengthen our case for gaining a fair and realistic timeframe given our individual and special needs of a one year eviction notice, a time frame by the way that has always been promised to buy our landlord adil shaikh. by not responding to this notice, -- who in the past had successfully assisted us with an illegal eviction from a prior landlord. after the window timeframe for responding to the notices had expired on may 25th, we received two eviction notices signed from mr. shaik. we were told at that time that because we had not responded to the notices in time, they could not be of service to us. we feel we lost a valuable ally in this process. so it's been proven in the past to help us. why again did we not respond to the notice? the sign posted in part reads any person who deems his interest or property shall be affected by work performed. to us that phrase is crucial.

i am still very optimistic that working together, the city, the developers, our board, and your board are going to be able to put together the financing plan to provide the funds that are necessary to continue and do the development to east answer your question, it's not moving fast enough for us >> i did actually work for the treasure island development authority as a development specialist, where my primary job was attracting the film industry and at that time there were a large number of films that were renting out the hangars there for film productions. i was able to get "the hulk" and other movies here and a lot of work, but a lot of it was the city under its film commission and the treasure island development through its marketing efforts attracted the film industry and that has changed over the years prior to your joining the treasure island development authority and the number of films that have not only relocated to the island, but have relocated to san francisco in general have declined significantly and therefore, taking with them significant millions of dollars in revenue.
