we saw people walking down the boardwalk abe i'm standing here on the atlantic city boardwalk near steel pier a few hundred feet from the beach but if you take a walk down the boardwalk there is people, down here, just walking around, they are heading home from the casino, some luck year then others, folks i spoke with told me that yesterday's wind was much more brisk then it is today. if we saw down here we saw a guy a few moments ago riding his uni cycle down the boardwalk. the bird are here. they are chirping. they are making noise. there is wind but it is not really abnormal. but that is on this side. if you go over to the beach and i'll give tommy, my photographer, kudos for this because we will walk over to the beach here and that is where you can tell that there is a storm coming. that is where you can see pretty high surf all they there is not a lot of sand blowing around you can see that there is, some wind here, you can see several feet high waves and i will give him a chance to get over there and show you guys this but there is several foot high waves and they are pretty, pret

we see plentyy people walking along the boardwalk.we're in ocean syssitia, both tonight here on the boardwalk oe youhe can see the crowds here.. also earlier out on the beach when the weather was actually much worse than it is now. we were seeing strong gusty winds and big waves and for now the only evidence of that is of this sand that is blown up here on the boardwalk, a lot of it, other than that, though, really no big issues to report on from ocean city, no major damage and also no major flooding at this point.in there were some concerns about high tide which is happening right about now. people concerned that maybe thih entire area would be covered byd water. but as you can see, luckily that is not happening. i was talking tot the head of te beach patrol here. he says he's worked at the shore for 44 years and here he is what he had to say about his fears about strong currents in the days to come. the ocean looks terrible. it looks scary. people stay away. this coming week it's going to get nice weather. but rip currents are going

that end of the boardwalk down there, it was all ripped up. they had to replace the boardwalk.hey were watching it closely to see what happened during hermine and the tides. we saw a couple high tides to go here before we're completely out of the woods. so far, so good. we have gotten some san on the boardwalk here in rehoboth. i'm here a lot with my family. people walk off, they bring sand with them but not like this. you can see the wind isn't so bad, a little bit of a breeze kicking through here. they took the trash can lids off, brought back the lifeguard chairs. the ocean, there's usually a six or seven-foot dropoff. the fact you want key the waves breaking there and it's level with where we are on the boardwalk, that means the water is up higher. it's not as bad as it could be. at high tide later this morning, up in lewes, down in dewey, there are spots we're concerned about. at this point, not too bad. breezy, actually nice out here in rehoboth. i see people coming out here starting to walk. coming to life a little bit out here. it looks like it will be a beautiful morni

the boardwalk packed. fox 29 sabina kuriakose live from ocean city. sabina? >> reporter: these crowds are nothing like what we're used to. usually of past, still a good crowd out here, georging this very pleasant night and of course, nothing like what we're used to. >> wow, it's pretty, the waves are pretty ridiculous. >> the family getting in some shore time in ocean city sunday evening. rough water and huge waves rendering the ocean off limits but it had a calming effect. >> we knew it wasn't going to be that busy. we figured we'd come down and go on rides and get food. >> everybody cancelled reservations >> the restaurants like hot spot on the wildwood boardwalk, hermine put a damper on the big business weekend. it meant mass exited ous saturday. >> the line of traffic took people five hours to get home. >> reporter: brian decided to risk it >> we fished all day, went to the beach >> boardwalk a lively but far from full. the crashing waves meant empty beach, police patrolling to make sure swimmers were heeding lifeguard to stay out of the surf. huge breake

but this boardwalk would be typically more packed on labor day weekend. lot of the hotels up and down the boardwalk said they were at 50% capacity. not what you want to see on one of the busiest or what should have been one of the busiest holiday weekends of the summer, of entire year actually. once the weather started to turn, people came back out. remember, we still have labor day tomorrow. so we did start to see business pick up a little bit more. but definitely a little bit of a bummer 23r9 businesses here. they were hoping to get a lot of business this weekend and didn't look like they got as much as they were hoping for but you really can't complain for the most part people here are pleased with how hermine treated them. >> could have been a lot worse. definitely. got a few more weekends left in september. hopefully they will be able to make it up. >> yeah. >> thank you so much. have a good rest of the night out there. >> thank you. ♪ >>> massive crowds at the vatican today for the canonization of mother teresa. pope francis declaring her a saint, j

take a look at the crowd here on the boardwalk in ocean city. it looks pretty good. we spoke with a bunch of people who told us they went home on saturday morning after the governor declared a state of emergency for much of the shore but then came back last night after hermine pushed out into the ocean to squeeze out as much as they could of the holiday weekend. still, many of the business owners we spoke with say they did take a financial hit. hermine packed a potential of bringing high winds and dangerous flooding to the jersey shore. obviously that didn't happen. and in many ways that's good news but don't tell that to the boardwalk shop owners hoping for lots of business over the labor day weekend. >> friday was very good but then everybody were on the bridge and out of here saturday morning with the -- with the governor saying the state of emergency and it -- it just -- i mean, we were down probably 50 percent. >> reporter: but john manager of the polish water ice shop in ocean city does not speak for everyone. we spoke with norman owner of curly's fries who sai

let's go live to jennette reyes who is live on the ocean city boardwalk, where you had lots of company. >> reporter: we have, foot traffic has picked up, and things have livened up a bit, officials are saying don't be fooled the blue skies will darken and that will bring rough water. always hermine is tracking up the east coast, it brings out two kinds of people out. >> i have a home here, but i'm leaving this afternoon. >> reporter: and people who say no big deal. >> don't be scared, live life dangerously. things is, that's what they are urging people not to do. the sunny skies will make way for showers and moderate flooding. >> i thought was going to be raining when we woke up this morning. >> reporter: steve and his son hit the boardwalk earlier this morning. >> we're going for a bike ride. >> reporter: the boardwalk was crowded with beach goers who were pleasantly surprised, it's not the kind of dense crowd you'll see on the weekend in the summer. tonight and tomorrow's weather will washout any major profits. >> as a business owner i feel sad for them you can i know how parent it i

. >> reporter: it is very windy on the boardwalk in rehoboth beach. sand is flying in my face talking to you right now. look over here at the beach. you can see how high these waves are as they come in crashing to the shore. we just saw beach patrol drive by about five minutes ago to make sure nobody's getting too close to the water. you see some people out here that are taking pictures of this marvelous site. and again this storm is not keeping people away from the shore. you can see a number of people right down here, this guy behind me, a number of people down here on the boardwalk, a lot of businesses are open right now. a spokesman everyone sussex county said their biggest concern so far is beach erosion and coastal flooding. they're going to keep an eye on that for the next 24 to 48 hours. again, you see beach patrol driving behind us just to make sure people are at a safe distance from the water. they also emergency operation centers. barring any major changes they expect to have that open by noon on sunday. of course, we'll check in with them,

melissa magee is on the wildwood boardwalk, folks now having a good time. beautiful day tomorrow and then things change as you get into saturday, sunday and monday. >> yes thark is right adam. friday is a good looking beach day, as we get into the weekend as you mentioned. we'll be tracking hermine. and we have the forecast for you as we head into the weekend, bright and nice on friday, a high temperature up to 79 degrees and no issues tomorrow and saturday it turns cloudy and we have the rain to deal with especially late saturday afternoon into the evening hours with a high of 75. and then tropical storm conditions move in as we get into sunday with the high temperature coming in at 73 degrees and i think the peak effects we'll feel at the shore will be late saturday night and throughout the day on sunday. adam as you mentioned, tomorrow is a good looking beach day a few drizzle drops now but we are making the best of the shore before the holiday weekend comes to a bit of a damper. >> melissa you are teasing us with the fudge, i have yet to have one piece

the first device exploded on this new jersey boardwalk... nats: "shut down the run, get them out of the boardwalk." then this powerful blast rocked a manhattan neighborhood. nats up video "boom" three hours later, a pressure cooker is found just 4 blocks north... and the next night, five pipe bombs are found at this new jersey train station. and as police try to disarm them... video surveillance and information gathered from that unexploded bomb led police to rahami. we now know rahami is a naturalized american citizen born in afghanistan... and the fbi found more bombs when they searced his apartment. officials also tell abc news that rahami travelled to afghanistan and pakistan. brad garret former fbi analyst: if he has made frequent trips to afghanistan than investigators, in particular the fbi are going ot have to figure out who he visited and what was the real purposes of his trips. o/c close authorities tell abc news that rahami is refusing to answer any questions, or even give his name.... right now they're digging into his life onlin

right now the threat of hermine isn't keeping people away from the boardwalk or from the beach. we saw a few people walking down the sand just a few moments ago, and this is what they came to see, these large waves crashing inland. the sea foam gives you an idea of where the water has gotten inland since about 6:00. people plan to ride the storm on out. the spokesman for sus sex county says they're concerned the storm is taking a while to move through. >> jackie morrison and her friends didn't expect to spend their labor day beach trip like this. >> we thought we were going to get some sun and we got storm, and i'm not mad at that state attorney. >> it is not stopping them from getting sand in their toes and seeing what hermine has to offer so far. for most of the afternoon the roar of the ocean was enough to attract a large crowd to take photos. >> what was it like out there for you? >> windy and sand blowing in your eyes. >> you got some sand in your face. >> yeah. what can i tell you. >> it is a good look for you. >> it is? >> yeah. >> i'm going to turn to the wind again. >>
