is, in fact, james comey make bob mueller's job a little more difficult? >> i think it's always tough when there is a book that is something that the defendant -- or the witness can be questioned about when he's cross-examined. it does make the special prosecutor's job harder. jeb mcgruder who was one of the key witnesses in watergate wrote a book that was published before he testified in the trial and it was a painstaking thing to go through that book and make sure there was noggin consistething with his testimony. but it does make it complicated. on the other hand, james comey is correct. he did testify publicly, he's locked in on his testimony, so there's something to be said about that. i think the criticism his book and that he was being petty in it or that he's using this to make his own point or make some money may be something that will be subject to cross-examination. but ultimately the jury will hear his testimony and any contradictory testimony and they'll have to judge the truth. and so far he seems to be very truthful in terms of the facts and

i do think that the public feuding between james comey and andrew mccabe is what donald trump wants and not what bob mueller wants. i think the memos in some ways help comey, like i mentioned. but in other ways they do what i think some republicans in the congress want, which is to further muddy this up and make it look like some kind of standoff where everybody has done something wrong, quote, unquote, and everyone is a little dirty. so in that sense, the short impact of the memos in the public realm may not be good. in the end, bob mueller already had this stuff, he's gone through it and used it in most of the high level interviews and is moving forward on his probe, which is why we're talking about this while there's a criminal referral in new york and while michael cohen is under serious pressure and that's why he dropped the buzz feed lawsuit on the dossier. so the memos are more interesting to us in public as we learn, than i think they are in the private process of the probe where they've existed for a long time. >> before we squeeze in a break, i want to get your reaction to the fact these m

james than brian. i don't think comey needs to let us raise the alarm. bob mueller is doing an investigation and what matters. i assume director comey is not revealing anything he shouldn't reveal as someone who directed that investigation. i assume he's talking about things he personally experienced, sort of a participant and then probably being careful and assume he's following the correct guidelines that a former fbi director should follow. you know, he's entitled to write a book. maybe interesting, maybe not. i can't say i learned something start ling from it but it's a week of hoopla and arguing. someone like james that served in the fbi i can understand why he feels like he does. there's a serious investigation going on. people who know bob mueller's career expected the integrity and obviously i think getting closer to very sensitive matters and i think to really learning what happened both in 2016 and then in 2017 and maybe up to now in terms of a cover-up. the president hinting at pardons. that's the drama. i don't think comey is a big story. >> kate
