my parents were independent baptists and you can see fundamentalists and they went to bob jones university. i wasn't allowed to go to movies even though i did. i did all sorts of bad things that my parent didn't want me to do. i snuck out. that was my background and i have -- someone else in the mix of the book is the figure by the name of francis shaffer a protestant missionary from switzerland, of course, roman catholics and protestants didn't think the roman catholics were christians. he set up a study center in in swit -- switzerland, a town close to montreal and went to try to figure out think about the meaning of relationships and the movies of movement and things like that. he had a big appeal. we did a film with francis, excuse me the surgeon general under ronald reagan. so he -- i went over there to sort of when i was a sophomore in college to try to figure out life and in some ways to see europe and that's when i sort of became left fundamentalism and presbyterian. >> host: do you consider yourself an evangelical today? >> guest: i do not. but a lot of people still would classify
