"today in the bay's" kris sanchez has more what we need to know about all of this. kris? >> reporte marcus and laura, of course, the whole reason for the power outages is to prevent any wildfire from sparking because of the pg&e equipment. so we had to ask pg&e about the kinkade fire that's now burning in sonoma county. they say it is near one of their public service power shutoff areas, those outage areas, but it is unknown at this point whether or not their power lines could have been a factor. we know they lost power at 3:00 yesterday afternoon. now this is the pg&e power map where people are in that public safety power shutoff area. pg&e warned 179,000 customers in 17 counties that they would be in the dark. for

bob redell is live in the hills above dublin. and bob, how are the air quality out there for you? >> reporter: well, actually the air quality, if you take a look out here, you have views as far as the eye can see over to tri--valley, marcus. but this is a spare the air day and the reason is there are concerns that the winds could be pushing the smoke and haze over this part of the bay area, this part of the east bay later today. and spare the air day. the map on your tv screen shows us the air quality within the past hour throughout the bay area. green circles on the map are good. those indicate the air quality index of 0 to 50. notice in san francisco there are some orange which means the air quality is approaching 100. in city as long the east shore freeway, air quality is well over 100. and that is close to where west contra costa county unified is where they are letting kids out at noon. they have bad air up there. benecia in the 300s. vallejo in the 400s. which is similar to the horrible air quality we experienced during last year's campfire in chico. the bay area air quality

earlier, bob redell was able to get close-up. we're watching the dosers working as well and you're reminded how dangerous a job this is. recently a fireman was killed with one of these as this is very steep terrain, very dangerous, and we appreciate the hard work they're doing. >> an upclose look of the fire lines they have. steep terrain, getting down there in the areas. they try to tackle it as best they can from up above right there. in the last 30 minutes or so that we've seen this fire, it erupted a little bit before we went on air at 11:00 this morning, when we had already launched nbc bay area sky ranger. it has grown considerably. vianey, i know you're on call for kari. we can see the direction of the smoke it's headed. it should, in a sense, help firefighters at this point but to we expect the winds to pick up? >> the threat for the wind gusts will remain through that 5:00 p.m. hour, which is why that red flag warning remains. wind speeds in the surrounding mountain areas as well. we're looking at 10 to 16 miles per hour

our own bob redell is reporting live for us this morning from soda rock winery in healdsburg. bob, we've seen you in the last hour and half. you were in the pitch black. we saw flames higher than your head and now as the sun begins to rise, utter devastation, but be you y told us this is a 150-year-old historic winery. >> reporter: establishing in 1869. at this point right now, soda rock winery doesn't have much left to burn. all you had was an old white house. now all you have left is a foundation. a couple of hours ago this house wastanding here and we watched the embers fly from the other fire and start to catch this on fire. sadly it went up in flames. here's the main winery over here, what's left of it. you see some of it's still burning. as you move to the left, you have this large stone facade. that's all that remains of the main building. let's walk down here. if you've been up here before, you may recognize it because of the stone facade. you can see everything is gone. there's also this rusted metal sculpture of a wart hogg. that's another landmark. i'm pointing that
