nbc bay area's bob redell joins us live if oakland international. bob, flights delayed as a result now. what's the the aftermath we're seeing? >> reporter: and there's still plenty of residual delays. i was inside the terminal and there's plenty of yellow on the departure screen. this is what it looked like when we arrived this morning. it still looks like that. you can see there's lots of yellow next to the southwest airlines flights, which indicates those delays. most delays for 20 to 30 minutes. we did not see any cancellations. it was around 7:03 this morning when southwest experienced a computer problem and asked the faa to temporaily stop its planes from taking off which took about an hour. a number of passengers tweeted their frustration. according to flightaware.com, more than 1,700 flights were delayed nationwide, which represents more than 40% of southwest's flights for today. today's technical was not related to the one back last year with holiday cancellations and much longer delays than today. >> we'll see when we get to denver what happ

"today in the bay"'s bob redell is live this morning talking about their vote. it will still take several hours before we find out what their decision was. >> reporter: correct. good morning to you, laura. teachers and staff with oakland unified had until last night to cast their vote on whether or not to go on strike, possibly as early as this upcoming monday, may 1st. but the union is not going to announce the results of the vote until a press conference at 5:00 tonight. the teachers and oakland unified have been locked in a contract dispute for a long time, and the union accuses the district of bargaining in bad faith. ousd says it is confident it can reach a deal with the union, but if a strike is approved, this will be the second one in just over a month after dozens of teachers walked off the job back in march. according to the "chronicle," the district has filed a request with the public relations board to issue an injunction to stop the teachers from going on strike. the district argues a walkout would be illegal and a violation of students' constitution
