chief smith, thank you. >> i'm chief bob smith with the harrisburg police department, and i'm going to touch on the law enforcement side of issues we've got at hand. starting this evening at 6:00 in the evening, we will have a curfew that will be imposed upon the affected area inside our perimeter. the curfew will last until 6:00 a.m. in the morning. we have an evacuation, which is something chief summers is going to talk about in a few minutes. as far as we know, it's been completed. again, we had six confirmed fatalities in the city limits of harrisburg since the onset of this storm this morning. we have command centers that we've established. we have one incident command center that is established here at the sheriff's department, and then we have secondary command centers and allocation distribution centers at rural king and the fcc financial building. one is for manpower, the other is for equipment we're storing in those areas. as soon as they're needed in an area and it's secured, we'll be sending those assets to that location. we have been issuing rural king as well work permits

smith. jonas max ferris along with bob and steve murphy. bob, focus on lowering gas prices and not how to pay for high gas prices? >> that's the issue. my goodness, we're expending this because we're not addressing the real problem and the real problem is, there's a great psychological impact on the price of gasoline, every consumer understands it. it's not like the trade balance or something like that, they're trying to figure out is this important. it's extremely important because it's in our face every single week, and this is why we don't have a comprehensive energy policy. we have to focus on lowering the price of gasoline, it will have the single greatest influence on our economy, and extending the payroll tax cuts, they do nothing, all they do is sustain where we are now. lower the price of gasoline, are you kidding me? that's what will stimulate the economy. we're absolutely focusing on the wrong thing. >> gary b. don't people need the tax cut all the more because they have to face these higher gas prices? >> well, brenda, i would n

bob redell, "today in the bay." >> it is not the news you want to hear in earthquake country. the white house wants to cut funding to the tsunami warning system. christie smith is live at ocean beach with more on what is at stake. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jon. hard to believe it was almost a year ago that the tsunami waves tied to the earthquake in japan hit the california coast. a lot of residents got an evacuation advisory, many left on their own. now comes word that the white house is considering cutting $4.6 million from tsunami programs. last year places like santa cruz and crescent city were hit with crushed boats and damage to harbors. one area that worries scientists is a proposed $1 million cut to buoys anchored to the ocean floor. what they do is provide critical details like how high the waves are and when they might hit land. another potential cut for programs that help educate the public, evacuation routes and where towns are threatened. now there are also groups who believe that the impacts won't be that severe because critical systems are in place and people know what to do. all of this, though, is part of the proposed 2013 bud

bob. more violence to report, another man is dead and a person of interest in custody. after an overnight shooting in oakland. christie smith live at the scene right now. she has all of the latest developments. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, jon. oakland mess are wrapping up this investigation. they took down the crime scene tape and moved a police cruiser. they seem to be focusing a little down the street there. after a 40-year-old man was shot, taken to eden medical center, telling us he has now died. when they arrived they found him down on the sidewalk on 83rd avenue, shot in the stomach area. this was about 1:30 this morning. they started immediately looking for the shooter with their guns out. and they focused on a house with a man inside after about 30 minutes a man came out with his hands up talking on a cell phone and smoking a cigarette. police saying that person only a person of interest, not a suspect yet because they are trying to sort out exactly what may have set this off. it's been a busy and hectic time. they have had several shootings in oakland in the past 24 hours. reporting live, back t

bob redell, "today in the bay." >> 5:02. overnight violence in oakland, the victim of a shooting we told you about this morning has now died. nbc bay area's christie smith will have more in a live report as she continues to gather information. in the meantime, it was a violent day in oakland. police are investigating several shootings that sent seven people to the hospital. around 3:00 yesterday afternoon there was an exchange of gun fire outside a home near the emeryville border. at least five people were injured. then police found the man shot at the intersection of 59th street and telegraph avenue. a seventh person showed up at the hospital later in the day with gunshot wounds. police are trying to figure out if the person of interest is connected in either shooting. all of the victims in those related shootings are said to be in stable condition. >> 5:03 now. we should learn more about recent hate crimes in san jose sometime this morning. police holding a news conference set for 10:00. among the cases an assault on a man in san jose in a parking lot back in november. this is a sketch of that suspect. police say the victim was leaving the lot on whit

smith was ticketed last month for driving 91 in a 55 mile-per-hour zone. she was also ticketed for driving with a suspended license and driving with expired registration. >>> virginia governor bobll may not support a controversial abortion bill being debated in virginia's general assembly right now. the governor is not committing to signing the legislation which would require women to have an ultrasound before getting an abortion. if that legislation reaches his desk, he says. the pro-life governor is reportedly having second thoughts about the bill after learning that the ultrasounds may be more invasive than first thought. >>> if you are hoping to catch a new flight from bwi marshall to cuba next month, you'll have to wait a little longer. weekly flights from baltimore to havana were scheduled to start on march 21, just days before pope benedict xvi planned to visit the island nation. the travel agency that arranged the flight says it did not get enough interest. the agency says it will try the flights again in october. u.s. citizens still are not allowed to travel to cuba as tourists, but the flights will be open to academics, journalists, and religious and cultural groups.
