super bowl city. things are just getting started. give us an update on how it's been the last couple of days. >> we are well prepared. we put a good plan in place. we are working with the local, state, and federal partners. this is a very secured area. and so we want to ensure that the people come down and have a good time and feel safe. they are going to see a large police presence. in this day and age, those are the things we think about and we are prepared. >> when we came in -- we went on saturday. we had to go through airport-style security. you have to put your bag on the thing like if you are going to the airport. what kind of people do you have looking for, you know, extra band of showers couldn't -- can't ra band there? >> there is officers in regular uniform. officers intactcal gear. we are very high profile and watching everyone coming through and we have a long list of prohibited items. we are checking bags. we are making sure when you get inside you are safe and everyone around you is as

activists in san francisco hit the streets near super bowl city. 200 chanted and sign carrying homeless advocates marching close to the fan village last night. it drew a massive police presence here in the city. cate caugiran live on the embarcadero with more on what the demonstration was all about and how police responded. >> reporter: the main issue is super bowl city. homeless say the nfl took it over from them. yesterday on one side you had people celebrating at city and others protestors demanding change. [ yelling ] >> reporter: the protestors marched around super bowl city carrying symbolic tents and signs that said, no penalty for poverty and house keys for homeless. organizers are now asking mayor lee to invest $5 million in housing and to create new programs for shelters and health services. in addition to the hundreds of protestors was a veritable alphabet soup of law enforcement from sfpd to the coast guard. kpix 5 security analyst jeff harp says this beefed up security presence is likely the new norm for big events. >> back over the last couple super bowls, one of the big d

super bowl city. alex savidge goes out and tries to find the answer. >> reporter: super bowl city across the way here at the embarcadero is drawing in big crowds from all over the world. in town for the big game later this week. you might think that would mean big business for everybody nearby but we talked a short time go with the folks here at this pizza restaurant just outside the ferry building and they say they have not seen a boost in business because of all the crowds in this area. >> it's exciting. there's a lot of people in town. the traffic is heavy. we are waking up a bit earlier than normal to get here but business has been good. >> truck and that the boulevard restaurant, a couple blocks away from super bowl city, the owner says business hasn't been this bad since just after 9/11. we talked with the owner, nancy oakes who says all the street closures near super bowl city

we have shown you super bowl city before. it's a major set-up that has a bunch of streets closed off at the foot of market. football fans from around the world in town for the super bowl. now, speaking of businesses doing well, inside the ferry building the pete's coffee shop has seen a surge in customers because of all the super bowl festivities nearby. in fact, over the weekend the store set sales records. on saturday, to be specific, they did quite well. at the nearby hotel the general manager happy with the hotel's proximity it to super bowl city. they are saying that it's a huge benefit to them. the hotel was offering up package deals. three night's stay and tickets to the "rolling stone" magazine party for ten grand and they sold out of those packages pretty fast. now the hotel has just a handful of rooms still available. >> we have had a lot of early arrivals. you can tell they are all dressed up for the event. they are going right over here to super bowl city. we are excited to make them have a fabulous stay while they
