the second is for general breedlove. can you comment on the apparent possibility that the bulk of ukrainian armed forces may be sooner trapped in the east? should they not make a strategic withdrawal to western ukraine? >> i am reticent to advise the ukrainian military, because they have done a pretty dang good job so far. when we were there, one of the things we heard was that the president felt like during the run up, we were so focused on what russia was doing along the border that we, one, did not see the report on what was happening inside russia, but he also said, you are so focused on what russia has been doing you have not been watching what we have been doing. the ukrainian military has done a superb job. i am going to try to put my trust and confidence in the leadership that has brought them this far. in the end, you and i see a real problem if all those great forces get trapped by this large movement that we now see from the north and the south. my guess is that these great people leading the ukrainian militar

another question from finland this time for general breedlove. this is from nicola. the question is, if the russian world decided to intervene in this foreign war, what would such an operation potentially look like? >> that's a provocative question. the leaders of nato and the u.s. have said we will not do that. but, first of all, things are being proposed now which could be executed relatively quickly like a comprehensive no-fly zone. the direct aid to humanitarian assistance going in and out. these things i think are easy first steps that would signal to our russian opponents that we are not interested in making this bigger. we are interested in shutting this down. clearly there could be more bellicose responses. then i think we are truly in a situation where we have to be careful. but the fact of the matter is, and this is what we are advocating for, and the conversation i had with david, there are first steps that could make a difference and signal we are ready to try to get out of what is going on as opposed to accelerate what is going on. those would be the thi

you've had two former four-star generals on, general clark and general breedlove, and i think they gave you what needs to be done. but i think that the ukrainians have to do two things. number one, get resupplied as quickly as possible. and the other thing is i think in any endeavor, in war, in business, in sports, if you're always playing defense the whole time you're going to lose. so the ukrainians have to go on the offense at some point in time rather than defending their cities, now having to do it with long-range missiles coming at them. we've got to provide them with the kind of capability they can start going on the offense against the russians. and i would include anti-ship missile capability. make the russians pay as much of a penalty as possible, one, on the military side and then, number two, for every day that goes by i would impose another sanction on the russians. i would seek to pound their economy like they are pounding the cities in ukraine. and i think the combination of giving them more capability militarily and then really imposing even stricter sanctions, saying to
