. >> and i'm brent cannon. i want to get you moving with rob and a check of your hour-by-hour forecast which is going to be changing. >> yeah, it is a little bit cooler out this morning. we have 30s and 40s outside. san jose is the exception at 53 degrees. notice the temperatures still getting into low 70s inland today, then cooling as we approach the evening. so the weather today not all that bad. i can say the traffic looks better this morning, we've got mike back. >> traffic over the santa cruz mountains not great because there is an incident clearing from the southbound side. sheriff's officers checking out an accident on the northbound side but the person turned around and now they're just off the shoulder near summit road, so watch for that activity. meanwhile heading out of the south bay toward that scene, your flow is nice. northbound 280 at southbound 17, an earlier accident is there but you can pass by on the connector. again, more activity to watch out for on the interchange. >> welcome back, mike. y

. >> i'm brent cannon and we are following breaking news on top of a couple of them. >> we will start with today in the bay's christie smith this morning with more on the chp chase. were they chasing the driver before the crash some. >> they were saying they were trying to pull this man over on interstate 580 westbound here in oakland. he was speeding and they had lights and sirens on, but it was a short pursuit. he got off the freeway and ended up here at 10 sixth and mac arthur. they are saying that he was speeding. he was supplying about 90 miles an hour down mac arthur. they stayed about a quarter mile back when they got on sur face streets. this was about 2:00 a.m. witnesses describe an incredible scene. they say you could hear the tires squealing as he came to the intersection. he didn't slow down at all or see what was coming at him. >> as he was coming this way, he looked towards me as to maybe give a slow as he was running from the police and right as he turned around, the young late or maybe two were coming here and he never saw them. as a car it impact and blew up. >> the d

i'm brent cannon. >> i'm laura garcia cannon. >> san francisco mayor newsom will be in sacramento as state's lieutenant governor. before he leaves, theying trying to tie up loose end or apron strings. he plans to take on the city's ban on happy meals. we want to check in with the bay area's bob redell and how the mayor is dishing out a side of controversy. >> reporter: this morning mayor newsom is expected to announce he is going to veto the new city law that bans toys. most likely the veto will be largely symbolic since the board of supervisors has a veto-proof margin. it passed on tuesday with in favor and three against. those are enough to override the veto. the law doesn't go into effect and design stod stop the restaurants from using toys to draw kids to meals high in fat and calories. they have to make them more nutrition by adding fruits and vegetables. mcdonald's is expected to file suit. it should be up to the parents to decide what their kids eat, not the city. incidentally the announcement is at an elementary school. hill also released a report on how the city is trying to

i'm brent cannon. little warning for people walking their dogs in the east bay after raccoons attacked a woman as she walked her dog. christie smith is live with what's been happening. >> reporter: nine attacks in one year and this latest may be the absolute worst. it happened near washington park. a woman says it was late sunday night and she was walking with her little dog. one raccoon came after her. she thought that was bad enough. then she was surrounded by four more. one of them she said bit her leg. both she and her dog are okay. apparently the raccoons are getting more aggressive, looking for food in garbage cans and running out of space to live. we're told traps may be set sometime after veterans day when the crowds die down. in alameda, christie smith, "today in the bay." >>> we'll have traffic coming up right after the break. i'm brent cannon.c students and workers are set to protest new tuition hikes this morning. they are outside the uc regents meeting in san francisco. today in the bay's christie smith is live with why they're so upset. >> reporter: good morning, brent. students are starting to arrive from places like uc berkeley and uc davis. a group is coming up from santa barbara. there is also a very strong police presence out here. barricades going up. the regents are meeting about 8:30 this morning at the mission bay campus. students and workers say they will go inside that meeting to speak and protest an 8% tuition hike. that's on top of a 32% jump last year that sparked some pretty major student protests. workers are upset over pension reforms. now, uc regents say given the economic climate it's really tough but necessary. crowds are expected to swell throughout the morning, but so far pretty calm out here. we'll be back after the break. y >>> time to check your morning commute with mike. he's watching bart. you
