ktvu fox 2 brian flores is in berkeley this morning with more on the council's decision. brian, the emotional reaction from people who live there. >> yeah it got very emotional at times. about 50 students, residents from berkeley attended last nights city council meeting. mainly to express their concern over excessive force by the berkeley police. we on the corner of chabouk and university. where you recall last month the businesses were damaged as a result of the protest. about 50 speakers took to the podium to speak out against how police handled protestors during the black lives matter. late last night the council approved a proposal forbidding police from using crowd control measures such as tear gas and rubber bullets. city council member jesse described the scene during december as a war zone but also says this was a delicate balance between first amendment rights and police safety. during last nights meeting it got heated and very emotional. >> i had family members that have been harassed openingly. and in public. in front of me and my mother. >> we're a community t

ktvu fox reporter brian flores to tell us how vulnerable the system is, brian. >> i've been reading up on this and i'm just astonished by how easily hackers were able to do this. the new york times was able to receive an advanced copy of this report, according to experts they say this is most likely the sophisticated cyber attack this world has ever seen. a cyber security firm say the hackers would send what looked like an innocent e-mail to a bank employee would look like it was sent by somebody within the bank but unknowingly the person who opens the e-mail whatever is in there would release malware. it can record key strokes and send back to hackers camera still shots or video of key bank employees of how they make transfers. according to the time's article the hackers would limit their theft at $10 million before moving onto another bank and because of nondisclosure agreements, the banks were not named. the report comes on the heals of president obama's visit to stanford university talking about cyber security, he signed an order meant to have better collaboration between private c

brian flores is out there right now. he told us four people are in custody. e another update for you coming up at 7:00. >>> southwest airlines is canceling more flights today after they violated a safety rule they did not inspect one fifth of their planes. ktvu fox 2 tara moriarty is joining us live now. you're at oakland international airport. so this was a shock for some of the travelers showing up this morning. >> reporter: yeah it certainly was. a lot of them haven't heard about it. even though this problem began really yesterday. passengers some of them were taking it in stride. they were being rerouted on to other flights. some were not effected at all. a lot were very annoyed that is because ten flights had been canceled in oakland. nine of them is departing. yesterday we know southwest was forced to ground 128 planes. that is one fifth of its fleet after it discovered the misinspections. passengers have been able to hop on to other flights. many had to take layovers and out of the way cities are arriving at their destinations hours later than scheduled

brian flores is in san rafael with the reasons why. >> reporter: good morning. doctor that we're talking about is the marin county public health officer. he says there could be several factors that lead to a resurgence of polio. now dr. matthew willis says because of that he is urging people and kids to get a polio vaccine even though it has not been seen in the u.s. for years. polio currently present in nine countries worldwide. estimated 35,000 people a year got polio from the 1940s to the 50s. but in the 1979 they declared the disease eradicated. with the recent cases of measles through the the country, dr. willis is also concerned that the same can happen with polio. he said we have a lot of families that enjoy international travel combined with a high rate of people that are unvaccinated for diseases that are endemic. that is a dangerous combination. the article also talks about how fewer than half of marin schools are unvaccinated against polio. these are the percentages of kids that are not fully vaccinated against the disease. new village school in usa l

brian flores is live at the port of oakland where there was a bit of a rocky start this morning. good afternoon, brian. >> reporter: yeah, there was, tori. good afternoon to you. all morning long, we've seen a long line of trucks trying to unload their cargo crates on the port of oakland. normally, you would see the hustle and bustle of the port unloading and loading cargo. but this morning, even though a tentative agreement has been reached, only one vessel is being unloaded. the reason why, there is a lack of cab on rafrters -- crane operators. we've not been able to find out why that is. but just as dock workers were trying to work, they started to argue over break times. that disrupted full operations. full operation resumes at 7:00 p.m. tonight. this was not an issue at the other 28 west coast ports just here in oakland. the pacific maritime association which represents the shipping companies issued a statement saying it will continue to address any future work stoppages by union workers through an agreement and arbitration process. this agreement still has to be ratified but

ktvu fox 2's brian flores is in benicia. you are getting reaction from those who live and work out there. what are they saying? >> reporter: well, they are very concerned. no question about that the we're live in benicia. obviously there was concern before this accident here in west virginia for the proposal to send more rail cars with crude oil, particularly through parts of northern california and refineries in richmond and here in benicia. a lot of people are concerned. the plan is to increase the amount of rail cars coming directly to the refining facility. the company wants to run two trains. each with 50 tanker cars carrying crude oil directly to the refinery every day. the company has said in the past that the project is necessary to stay competitive on the west coast and that safe operation is a top priority. we've done stories on fire crews conducting fire trills in case a leak occurs but the concern remains really through much of california, even sacramento and davis are calling for advanced notice from their emerg

brian flores is live in danville to let you know why one business owner is feeling pretty frustrated.eporter: he is. good morning to you. we're at the crossroads at danville shopping center. we spoke to a restaurant owner who is very frustrated. he says this is the third time in the past year that his business has been targeted. he believes the same people are responsible for the break-ins at his business and others here in dan ville. now, police say the most recent break-ins happened early tuesday morning. here at the crossroads of the shopping center, two businesses were broken into. police did not say what businesses were targeted. but we spoke to a few owners. the businesses affected were a mexican restaurant and a sushi restaurant. it happened between:00 and 5:00 a.m. another break-in happened not far from here, the rose garden shopping center. again, we spoke with the owner of the mexican restaurant in the past hour, he says thieves have taken cash registers even his safe. but nothing was taken this time around but he will have to shell out $800 of his own money to pay for a sha

brian flores has more on why the doctor is so worried. eporter: good morning. the doctor that we're talking about is the public health officer for marin county. he tells the independent journal there are several factors that could lead to a resurgence in polio. now, doctor mathew willis says because of that he's urging people and kid to get the polio vaccine even though as you mentioned, it has not been seen in this country for years. polio currently present in nine countries worldwide can be fatal or leave a personal paralyzed. an estimated 35,000 a year got polio from the 1940s to '50s. in 1979, the u.s. declared the disease eradicated because of the vaccine. but with the recent cases of measles, dr. willis also concerned the same can happen with polio. he tells the independent journal we have a lot of families that enjoy international travel combined with a relatively high rate of people who are unvaccinated for diseases that are endemic in other parts of the world. he says that's a dangerous combination. we spoke with people here in ma
