the oil delivery truck on saturday bottomed out as it was bronx river road. that's an apartment building. the driver heard the truck bottom out, got out, took a look, noticed the spill, and the fact that the oil was running down the curb in to the storm drains that filtered in to the bronx river. that prompted a two-prong cleanup. stopping and diverting the oil on the land while at the same time removing the oil that made its way in to the water. >> the oil leaked out of the truck on to the roadway, flowing down the curb in to the storm drain on the west side of bronx river road. and it then traveled through the storm drain through three different sections to empty out in to the bronx river. >> reporter: back live along the bronx river, the chief estimates about 500 gallons poured out of the truck on to the landing. he thinks less than 100 gallons of oil made it in to the river. despite what you see, is largely complete. why is this here? they're monitoring the oil and the storm drains to see as the water comes out of the storm drains what oil, if any, remain

. >>> also new, a frightening attack in the bronx has women in that area on edge. a man beat and raped a woman in stairwell. michael george is in the fordham section with details tonight. >> reporter: feeling safe in your own neighborhood is something we often take for granted. people who live here say they won't get that feeling back raped a woman back is caught. >> do you feel safe walking around here alone? >> not at all. >> absolutely not. >> reporter: in this neighborhood people are afraid. afraid of another attack after a woman was raped friday night. just before midnight the victim entered a building. police say the attacker followed her inside. he assaulted her and robbed her in the elevator and then he took her to a stairwell and raped her. >> the thought of someone following an individual is really sickening. >> it's scary. i never thought this could happen in this neighborhood. >> reporter: the victim was taken topt the hospital. the rapist ran off. police don't have my details. he's about 18 years old, 5'8", and wearing a gray sweatshirt. until he's cau

it is one of three slashings in the bronx. tracie strahan is in williams bridge with new information. tracie. >> reporter: darlene, police tell us that the 26-year-old victim is doing what we were doing. except she was doing it with other people on the street in broad daylight. what perhaps is mos alarming about her attack, police say she was picked at random. take a lock at it yourself. you're going to see two men get out of a black sedan. first the man in a black coat and then the driver in red pants. the crowd that was gathered here scatters when the duo starts to attack. their target, a 26-year-old woman who has been blurred out but wearing a pink fleece. the 26-year-old was stabbed by both men, one stabbing her on the right side of her stomach, the other slashing her right ear before they took off heded eastbound on burke avenue. that woman was taken to jacoby hospital. said to make a full recovery from all of this. police don't have much of a description of the suspects but they're hoping the video helps. >> back to you.

. >>> we're going to turn now to a developing story in the bronx. police shot and wounded a man they say was waving a gun in the air. it happened late this afternoon in the morrisania section. eyewitness news reporter darla miles is at the scene where police have just updated the investigation. >> witnesses say the suspect was walking around firing off rounds, pointing and waving this gun, even waving it as cars drove along the street. i'm standing on the corner of tinton avenue and east 156th street and this is where police say they were flagged down by witnesses. i want to take you to a picture of the gun recovered by the nypd. it's still on the ground in the snow as police officers continue their forensic investigation. but possibly a small caliber. possibly .22. we're waiting for confirmation around the nypd. this happened around 3:45 this afternoon in the morrisania section of the bronx. when the suspect was spotted waving the gun on the street, they flagged down a patrol car to let them know what was going on. there were three police officers

. >>> and firefighters working to contain the flame that tore through an apartment building in the bronx. at least four people are hurt, "today in new york's" tracy stray han is there. >> reporter: two of the injures are serious but not life-threatening. the fire is under control. we want to show you it started on the fifth floor there. said to be in the corner of the area, and the investigation is now under way. we're going to show you video what it looked like when we arrived. fire officials tell us this broke out around 2:14 this morning in this building that is residential. it has stores underneath. a lot of people tell us it wasn't really a chaotic scene. a lot of people were alerted to something being wrong as soon as it started. now, we have video of the fire fight. it took a couple hours to get it under control. of those four injuries, two of them are minor, all of them to people trying to get themselves to safety. we spoke to one person inside of this place about how he knew something was wrong. take a listen. >> i saw my mom moving around and screaming. so i thought it was real
