about a year ago at twin parks northwest in the south bronx we lost 17 members of our bronx family, including one as young as two years of age. and so that experience motivated me to partner with the united states fire administration to pass legislation that would empower the usfa to investigate the deadliest fires in the country in order to translate the lessons learned into policies and practices that will save lives to a wise person once said those who fail to from history will, are doomed to repeat it. and we must learn from the worst fires in our country so that we can prevent a repeat of our most tragic history. just like there is a process for investigating airplane incidents and a process for investigating cyber incidents, there ought to be a federal process for investigating fire incidents. we must empower united states fire administration in much the same way that we empower the national transportation safety board. this issue is deeply personal to me because the greatest challenge i face as an elected official is struggling to comfort families whose lives have been shaken to the co
