as did the police chief in brooklyn center. today prosecutors arrested the officer charged with manslaughter in the second degree, but we will keep eyes on brooklyn center tonight, as we have for the last few nights. there have been several dozen arrests, each of the last few nights. it has been very heated confrontation between local residents and the police. including a lot of projectiles thrown. tonight there is a curfew in effect. in brooklyn center minnesota, it starts at 10 pm local time which is 11 pm eastern. you can see things get tense there, particularly at nightfall. i should also tell you there's an increased presence of national guard troops in the area tonight. about 2000 troops, were deployed in the minneapolis area for the last two nights. but as of today that has been increased by 50%. we are expecting more like 3000 national guard troops in the streets there tonight. we will have a live report coming up. from brooklyn center minneapolis area later tonight, we'll keep eyes on what's expected to be a fourth nig

i'm the chief of police here in brooklyn center. i have been the chief for approximately five years. i've been a police officer in the city for 27. today i will be releasing the body-worn footage worn by the officer involved in the fatal officer-involved shooting that happened sunday afternoon. i have watched the video myself. there's nothing i can say to lessen the pain of mr. wright's family. friends, loved ones, for that feeling of loss they must have. that pain is shared by the community and also all of those involved in the incident. what i can do is convey my deepest sympathies to the wright family and be transparent with the information i'm aware of at this time. that will include showing a video portion from the point of deadly force used by the officer as well as the officer's immediate reaction after the use of deadly force. i caution everybody as you watch this that this will be graphic and unedited. can i have that video start, please? >> someone turn the lights off. just a moment. >> should be on both screens. >> welcom

brooklyn center where we saw massive unrest. criminality on some peaceful protests the night before but overwhelmed by what looks like, again, people who believe that what happened to mr. wright was a criminal act, not an accident. apparently, mike, there was concern that the police chief referenced an accident at one point. there was an accidental shooting which sent a lot of activists in the stratosphere. how could you say this was an accident? that's what we picked up the last couple hours. >> yeah, you pick that up throughout the day. anyone doubting it could have been an accident and the mistake that they say happened. she mistook the taser for the firearm. you heard in the press conference with mayor elliot today, the activist/journalists were there badgering the police chief, the acting police chief who had been on the job a half an hour. the expired tag that motivated the initial traffic stop with duante wright. they believe there was a profile stop and asking what he was going to do about profiling. his response was tha

and omar jimenez joins us now from brooklyn center.situation the past couple of night, has the judge made any announcements to the jury? >> he has, anderson. and it's actually been a point of concern, at least for the defense attorneys in this and specifically the judge. when court was dismissed today, the judge told the jurors, one, have a good night and also don't talk to anyone and don't watch the news. he wants thome stay as focused on the derek chauvin trial as much as they can, even though it is clear to see it is a very tense minneapolis area in total. and this is actually the exact thing the defense was initially worried about. a day ago, they asked the judge if they could sequester the jury now, just because of how big the news has gotten surrounding, of course, the shooting and killing of daunte wright at the hands of police. and especially as we are now seeing curfews going into effect at night. and it just makes it a little bit more difficult to avoid. and there are fears that it could creep into the jurors' ability to judg

paul and brooklyn center have all imposed curfews in anticipation of further protests. this comes as the defense began presenting their case today in the derek chauvin murder trial just across town in downtown minneapolis. word also seems clear chauffeur's lawyers are intent on putting the victim on trial highlighting george floyd's prior arrest and assailing his character. the wright family together with the floyd family today held a press conference with attorney ben crump. wright's grieving mother described the moment she called to see if he was okay only to find out he had been fatally shot. >> i never imagined this is what was going to happen. i just thought maybe he was being arrested and then when i called back, the girl that he had in the car answered the phone and it was on a facetime and she said -- she was crying and screaming and she said that they shot him and that she pointed the phone towards the driver's seat and my son was laying there unresponsive. >> my lord. >> that is the last time i seen my son. that's the last time i heard from my son and i have h

some of them may live in brooklyn center. it's very close. >> the reality is some of them may live in the community, but also there's the potential they'll hear of the news. it's going to be national news for the next several days if not weeks, so this judge has to be concerned about things they may take in and mr. writght's murde. they have to look at the facts and evidence presented in trial, but we know jurors are humans and they do get access to information. this jury only has 14 members. this judge can't allow -- he's not in a position to lose but two of these jurors. so there's going to be a real tightrope that this judge has to walk in order to keep this jury in place so that there's not a mistrial called with respect to the derek chauvin matter. it's very disturbing, very frustrating. there's going to be lots of protests happening in the community, and inevitably, it's go going to impact the jury. >> again, we still need to hear the details of what happened in brooklyn center. but, areva, the context of what happened,

it's a snowy night in brooklyn center. my understanding is this is about the time that the curfew was supposed to kick in. explain that for us on what's going on. >> well, what happened before they started the curfew was a declaration from police. they used the long-range acoustic device. the announcement after announcement to let the protesters know. they showed up in big numbers today, around 2,000 protesters. once they started shaking the fences outside the police headquarters they started making the announcement that it's an unlawful assembly. we saw the tear gas, flash bangs being used. ultimately if you look past me, you can see the rows and rows of state troopers, you can recognize their reflective gear on the right. some of that is reflecting back. they came to the south of the crowd and just started advancing in this direction. they have covered probably about half a mile. as they move up the road, sometimes they use some of the less than lethal munitions, less lethal munitions, pardon my word choice. flash bangs

so we want to get to the streets now of brooklyn center, minnesota. there you see sara sidner getting into position there. sara, it is curfew time. what's up? >> reporter: yeah, the crowd is much smaller. we have seen a couple of people that had medical issues. they actually have medics that are out here the whole time that have crosses on them. they will pick people up. they have literally picked up a who looked like she had a seizure and took her out to the hospital. we are also seeing people get injured with rubber bullets. we also -- remember earlier we showed there were some barricades and barriers that people had put up there, makeshift? well, now they have moved them all the way up to the fence right in front of the police, and at times, you will see the entire crowd sort of go down on their knees to get behind some of those barriers that they have created. they're pulling things like garbage cans and, you know, crates and using those almost as shields against some of the munitions that are being fired, the less than lethal munitions that are b
