nbc bay area's jean elle is in burlingame with the latest. jean?> reporter: janel, this is a danger situation for seniors at atria senior living in burlingame. three residents have tested positive for coronavirus. you can see there's a sign on the front door that says it's temporarily closed to visitors until further notice. according to the san mateo county public health department it learned from atria that six residents are in the hospital. three of those residents have tested positive for coronavirus. atria has suspended non-essential visitation and appointments. county officials say the facility has outbreak precautions in place, including taking residents' temperatures twice a day. the county says it's now partnering with state officials to make sure residents' needs are addressed. this is a senior living and memory care facility. the coronavirus is particularly dangerous for the elderly. and in a communal living environment containing the spread of the virus is a big concern. here in san mateo county there are 80 coronavirus cases and one de

it comes after four cases at another facility in burlingame. nbc bay area's robert handa who broke both stories on twitter joins us from the los altos center with the latest on the effort from the virus spreading there. robert? >> reporter: well, as you said, the cdc has always warned that senior care facilities face a lot of risks, even if all the residents follow the rules. now we're here at that los altos site that just had its first case and are trying to be very up-front about it. the los altos subacute and rehabilitation center says it took precautions when the coronavirus outbreak started, but last friday, march 13th, a 75-year-old man was admitted from a local hospital who came down with a fever the next day. the center then found out last night he tested positive for covid-19. neighbors familiar with the facility say it shows there is only so much you can do. >> it's a very nice place. >> reporter: are you surprised at this? >> not really. i know there is going to be more cases coming up. and people in the rest homes of that age and co
