erin: caitlin, what do you -- caitlin: i'm going to pick on a couple of things. know your infrastructure dependencies, that is really important. it is not just the obvious things like thinking through what disruption of power or water might mean for your operations, your facility. i'm going to use the example of the baxter saline production plant in north carolina, a plant that was outside of asheville, north carolina. as we all know, asheville was severely impacted by hurricane helene. baxter, this facility employed 3000 employees, and it is the largest production facility for saline in the united states. pretty sure they had a business continuity plan. what they may not have accounted for was a hurricane that washed out all of the roads that led to their facility. moving saline, which has a shelf life, from that warehouse out to hospitals became a very difficult thing. and they supply like 80% of saline to hospitals nationwide. when you go into a hospital or medical facility, saline is like water. you just get it. it is something regardless of your condition th

caitlin, do you want to start? >> i think david did a great lay down of how things have evolved over the last four years. i think the ascendancy of cyber -- when i was at infrastructure protection, we would talk about convergence of the cyber and physical. i think colonial is one of the greatest examples. ransomware attack on the business side of the house, and the company made the decision to shut down the pipeline because they were concerned about it moving into the actual control system, the operational side of the house. in terms of what we have accomplished the last three years, it is important we to perhaps to the president and congress -- tip our hat to the president and congress for passing the bipartisan infrastructure law and the president's entire agenda. we have made $3 trillion worth of investment in our infrastructure between the bipartisan infrastructure law, the inflation reduction act, and the chips and science act. that is imported because i was talking about our aging and failing infrastructure.

it now, what can you tell us about what did happen inside the room today i hate to tell you this, caitlin but i can't tell you anything. >> the house rules for good reason require confidentiality, and if there is any statements, it's done by the chair and the ranking member. um, and there's just the analogy to me. i'm not a lawyer. is like a grand jury. as you understand, this is a quasi judicial process. we're investigating. we started this when mr. gates was a member. obviously so this is an unusual circumstance, and we're working through the process. i think in a bipartisan way with some challenges, as you could imagine. um, are not fully unexpected, but maybe unfortunate from some people's perspective but i really can't comment at all about what happened in the room i can talk to you about the general process, but i hope you understand that i'm not trying to be evasive. i'm just trying to comply with the rules in that room. >> democrats voted for releasing it. republicans voted against it. it was split on party lines. how unusual is that for there not to be a consensus in that room we

caitlin? >> reporter: we have been covering the former president's campaign all year.is supporters believe this is anticipated all along. his campaign have been telling us they expected results on election night and it seems like they will get them even though we are technically into the next day. i want to pick up on the significance of pennsylvania just quickly because i essentially have been parked there for much of this cycle because donald trump himself has been parked there coming out of the shadows to voice their support for him. there are so many moments throughout this campaign we're seeing perhaps as controversies or liabilities for the former president, including the 34 felony counts that ended up endearing his party further to that kind of base of support i think is significant. now we have talked about how that base could have been limited, but the campaign also made a big gamble, trying to expand beyond that base to low propensity voters, that gamble seems to have paid off. he will have done that without changing anything about who he is or what his messa

>> norah: caitlin huey-burns, thank you.'s bring in major garrett to take a dive into the early voting numbers and the gender gap between male and female voters. this is so interesting. we talk about nearly 70 million people have voted in this country. let's take a look at georgia. has there been a surge in women voters, minority voters? >> great question, norah, great to be with you. a disclaimer. we know people have voted. we do not know how they voted. but you mentioned georgia. 3.6 million votes. why is that significant? norah, that is nearly three quarters of the entire 2020 turnout in georgia. voting really works for them. some demographic clues that early voting tells us. we do know the demographic composition, gender and race. female votes and african american votes, pretty much comparable to what it was in 2020, one of the big x factors, not only in georgia but all the other battleground states, what will day of turn out be, in 2020, many people voted early because of pandemic concerns. they won't have them now. bot

and along those lines caitlin. cnn obtained this police report which revealed new details from the sexual assault allegation against defense secretary pick pete hegseth. so is the president elect sticking by hegseth tonight we haven't heard any indication otherwise yet john. >> but obviously this came out overnight. it's 22 pages. hegseth has denied that this was a sexual assault, as the woman has clearly alleged here and you can read the entire police report. i looked through all of it earlier they said it was a consensual encounter we know there is a paid settlement between the two of them. hegseth directed towards this woman. and so really with matt gaetz withdrawing a lot of the attention on capitol hill, that was mainly directed at him, i think will now go and focus on pete hegseth nomination. we've heard some republican senators already raising questions about this given just the immense role that he would have if he is confirmed now, some of them have been enthusiastic and said they are supporting him, but i

caitlin first, tell us more about president elect trump's pick now for attorney general pam bondi. to this decision john, it just came hours after trump had been had realized that he was going to have to make a new decision on that after matt gaetz had withdrawn his name as attorney general for his pick. >> that came after a conversation that the two of them had this morning regarding the fact that a lot of these republican senators who had been skeptical of this nomination from the beginning, we're just not going to move. and that was clear even from the conversations that they were having on capitol hill, they could only afford to lose a handful of republican senators for this vote. and so it was really just doing the math here that that happened. and immediately, john, that jumpstarted this process of who is going to replace him as the pick for attorney general because this is one of the most important roles to president-elect donald trump. he's been down here at mar-a-lago working on treasury and an fbi potential director. what that was going to look like. and then today, this

kaitlan collins in west palm beach thanks so much, caitlin. we'll have more tonight on her great show. it's called the source with kaitlan collins. that's tonight at 9 p.m. eastern only here on cnn. now let's move on to some of trump's expected policies. today, president elect trump confirmed he's preparing to declare a national emergency as part of this mass deportation plan to round up undocumented immigrants in the united states and kick them out of the country. let's bring in cnn's priscilla alvarez. priscilla, what are your sources telling you? >> well, this is a telling of just how resource intensive any kind of mass deportation plan is. that's what this really is all about. according to the sources i'm talking to, they want to unlock those resources from the defense department to build detention space to use facilities, and to use military assets. but this is not according to the people i'm speaking with. is using the u.s. military to arrest immigrants in the united states. this is a way for them to use those resources because any depor

caitlin clark is here to start us off. as always you are out in front of all of this. how did the president elect come to pick r.f.k. jr. and what are the chances of his confirmation? >> after judging by the shock of yesterday's today was more like an expectation from trump world and the sources who have been there. r.f.k. jr. has been in palm beach basically nonstop since the election. what was really clear, especially after the interview that idea where he very unequivocally said r.f.k. jr. would not be getting a cabinet position. that is maybe what led to today. it caused a huge uproar entirely. >> so you did this? >> i don't want to take any credit for this. people were upset that 10 days before the election he was so bluntly saying who was getting what job. r.f.k. jr. was upset himself because he and trumpet had discussions. trump has said that he would let him go crazy on health policy. it was pretty clear that the writing was on the wall. they talked about a health czar role. but this is another incident of trump basically daring defendant is a block my nominee.

caitlin. yeah. and, mr. mayor, it's obviously another nominee now that is under scrutiny for this in a very different sense. but but pete hegseth with, with this. you know, i remember in trump's first term he was actually his name was thrown around for a potential veterans affairs cabinet position it was quickly withdrawn in a sense where people didn't take it seriously. i spoke to someone today who was working for trump at that time and said there were rumors about this, not substantiated. they don't know but but that's something that would have been a discussion, right when you're deciding who to put in this cabinet role. >> yeah, this is really even shocking for the trump world to have had no real vetting to move this quickly. and i think it's a sign of sort of an impending recklessness. you know, in the first trump administration, to be fair he chose a lot of very well-established figures for key posts, folks who had very distinguished records and had gone through vetting before. this time, it seems to b

and i think that latter thing that you mentioned, caitlin, is going to be a big deal. what happened was donald trump's charitable foundation made a $25,000 donation to pam bondi's super pac at the time, pam bondi was attorney general of florida, was considering joining a lawsuit against donald trump for his university, quote, unquote university. now, ultimately, the state of new york brought that lawsuit. but pam bondi decided not to bring it. and when that transaction came under scrutiny originally, the party said, whoops, it was a mistake. we actually didn't mean to donate it to pam bondi. we meant to give it to some other entity, some other nonprofit in kansas. ultimately, though that was disproven. that was proven to not be the case. that got them into some trouble with the irs. they had to give the donation back. so that's exactly the kind of thing that i think is fair play here and, caitlin, it's important to know we are now looking at a possible situation where the top four officials at the justice department and that could be pam bondi, could be todd blanche wh

caitlin and sarah just talked about matt gaetz and questions over his qualifications, that is one thing. is now fully moves into the political sphere. this is a test for the new senate, which just named its new leadership yesterday in johnstone john thune. how do you think they will handle this, given that so many republicans have questions about matt gaetz? >> this is probably going to be a recess appointment . they will handle it the same way they handle everything else, which is to duck and dodge and cower to donald trump. matt gaetz and tulsi gabbard have no business getting appointed to the positions they are in. i find it a great deal of irony in the fact that people voted for donald trump so that they could get the cost of eggs and milk to be lowered, not whatever this is. it is kind of obscene to actually think about matt gaetz being over the attorney general, over the department of justice , and being attorney general. for democrats, this is a lesson. i remember democrats, we pushed al franklin out of the united states senate because of a wayward picture he took and the outrage

caitlin collins joins us. >> four more years, anderson. >> just to get through the week.h of a surprise is matt gaetz? i think i know. quite a surprise. >> in a world where people are used to being surprised by their boss and donald trump and basically everyone in his orbit kind of operates that on a daily basis and four years, anderson, this one was even a surprise to people working on the transition. i've been in palm beach, and i just got back this morning and i've been covering it closely and talking to a lot of people, this is not a name who had come up for almost anyone in any of the discussions or interviews or talks that they've been having about who was going to head the justice department? obviously, one of trump's biggest priorities and one that he's been thinking about for months now before he was even reelected. he was thinking about who he would put in this position. so this was a shock to essentially all of them and that was the big question tonight about what this looks like going forward. anderson, it was 24 hours ago that trump was unhappy with everyone
