a devastating fire continues to burn at a rapid pace in the cajon pass. it's about 200 miles southwest of las vegas. tens of thousands have been forced to evacuate. the fire has destroyed homes and caused power outages. thousands of firefighters have been working to put out the flames. the fire is only four-percent contained. we have team coverage. fox five's chief meteorlogist ted pretty will have more on the smoke coming into our area... but first we start with fox five's miguel martinez- valle. he's at one of the many canyon communities devastated by the fire. thats right im one of the many communities along highway 138 that have been evacuated. and if you take a look behind me you can see why, he hills of southern california are on fire and firefighters are having a hard time keeping the flames from spreading. still not everyone's gone. i spoke to one man who says he staying home as long as he can.
