moving to the calaveras stem in the project. of course you have the existing dam on the foreground and the hill and the current conditions. you may recall that we had landslide a in the upper portion of the slope. that has been largely removed and that slope has been excavated about 500 feet down. there is a remnant of that slide left in place. at the time of discovery of that slide, there was this area b that we also knew could be a slide but it wasn't certain at that time. now that we have excavated down at the full excavation at the slide, we know that's a slide and we've done 32 additional exploratoria to find the extent of that slide. it's going to be about six 600,000 cubic yards. the slope has to be reached to come down and the rocks will need to be replaced with concrete. we feel like we have good definition of this feature at this time with this additional exploratoriaary work. the scope has been given to the contract or and they are currently working on a schedule and pricing. this slide shows kind of the detail of the

we have a next quarter of the improvement program for the anticipated sip overcast overrun on calavera and we are going over the baseline program which we have presented to you in the meeting in april. quickly the preconstruction update we have the alameda capture project, the sip committee approved the project in december and we anticipate starting the environmental impact report in june. we have the pipeline seismic upgrade that i mentioned. we expect to start construction in spring. we are currently working on temporary easements and access and memorandum of understanding and ground recovery we are responding to public comments and those are on going. completion of final package is anticipated in spring. now, a little bit more detail on the alameda creek project. this is known as the upper alameda filter project. the current project scope includes two stage pumping to capture water from the alameda creek to snow valley and that water is released to alameda creek and recaptured downstream. the collection point is water that naturally filtrates which is shown on the slide to san anton

there have been cost increases in some of the projects including calavera dam replacement which is a corner system of our system and we are having to repair that dam and because of changes in geologic conditions we found there, we need to in accrues -- increase that project by $120 million. that money had to come from somewhere in our program and so we have delayed construct of the desalination in our project. we still have about $8.5 million. we have to decide if we'll do the project and finish those things that we are committed to and make sure our system runs efficiently. i will be happy to answer any questions. >> thank you, mr. richie. supervisor tang, any questions? okay. thank you. mr. rodriguez from the environment department. >> good afternoon. i want to spend some time to talk about education activities that our department takes in support to get around conservation to city san franciscans and water users and we play a role to sf puc and do many activities. one that i wanted to focus on our if i can is our school education program and working with san francisco unified and

i must say, the biggest challenge of the program going forward is the calaveras damn replacement project. this project you heard about in the past is the largest project in the program one of the most complex. in 2012, we discovered an ancient landslide during construction that increased the amount of volume needs to be excavated by more than 3 million yards and you can see the an excavation being made. there is a large cut that is about 500 feet high that you can see. to date we have another 200 feet to go to the bottom of the valley. in 2012 we also recognized there was another feature called area b which was another suspected landslide but it couldn't be determined until we got to that level. it has been confirmed that there is another ancient landslide that needs to be removed. that is another half or so cubic yard with respect to excavation. we have done geologic exploration to make sure we find the limits of that additional feature. we are currently evaluating the schedule and cost impacts associated with that feature and we expect to have those numbers in the next couple of months

part of it is put off because of the calavera project and you need to balance that and understand that. there are other projects in the mix. this is the one that's been chosen. it's the one that happens to hurt the 265 and impacts the wholesale customers to projects that impact san francisco customers, the retail customers are untouched and that's not right. we into ed to somehow balance that. i'm not going to tell you how to do it. i have my favorites, but i'm not going to tell you. that's something you and staff should somehow accomplish. >> the only thing i want to highlight is that this is a 10-year plan we have budgeted every 2 years. the thinking was that we are still funding the environmental and planning process so we know the timing and the amount and what it is and at anytime as you know if we get any information we can put it back in. i do understand that it's sending a message that we are not committed because we have limited capacity in the 10-year plan and so, just want to know that our intention is to keep going along the pursuit of the desaul and that's why we haven't c
