it was a two-alarm fire for calfire.ed this with a helicopter crew, a bulldozer and a number of different hand trucks to help the san jose fire department out who were the ones that called for the mutual aid. as you can see right now, they are basically cleaning up hot spots. they feel as though they were able to get this fire under control in a good way because they were able to keep it spreading into the neighborhoods. right now all they are doing is basically trying to control the hot spots as well as wait for fire investigators to come. as this point, they are not exactly sure where the fire started, how the fire started because it's an open field. one thing we'll show you quickly, we were talking about this earlier, mark tamayo mentioned how the wind was a big factor. san jose fire department says they got a big break because during much of the fire the wind died down and so that really helped firefighters get this fire under control. again, less than ten minutes ago, san jose firefighters declared this fire under c

calfire with air response coming to this fire. see air response working the flames on the ground. >> let's go to our newsroom now. gasia mikaelian is in the newsroom. working to get some more information, gasia what do you have? >> frank at this point, i've been monitoring social media. i put a call out, asking anyone for information in the area in san jose and east san jose that you've been focusing on to give us a call and tell us. because as you've been reporting it does appear this fire is happening near homes in the area. we put the call out and if anyone there is able to share with us what they are seeing and smelling. i believe our chief meteorologist bill martin says it's drifting south ward. this is something that a lot of people are certainly seeing and certainly smelling on a day like today at the end of a week where we've been talking about wile fires fires -- about wildfires up in the north. now it appears to have hit the south bay. this of course is the first relatively big fire that we've been reporting in the south

we just checked with calfire they say that fire is just 10% contained. flames are being driven by gusty winds, fortunately no structures are threatened. the biggest wildfire though is burning in souther california in ventura county. as of about an hour ago, the calfire has now destroyed 18,000 acres of land and is only 20% contained. the fire is burning in steep coastal canyons and flames raced all the way to the ocean today. it's threatening homes, orchards, camps and backyards. >>> here in the bay area, another red flag warning is going into effect today and our chief meet roálgts bill martin is tracking our conditions -- chief meteorologist bill martin is tracking our conditions. >> red flag warning in effect and everybody else for the highest elevations of the north bay. so areas above 1,000 feet. we had record heat today again. with 86 in oak -- oakland that tied a record. i'll have all the official records for you here in about the next 15 minutes or so. but let's take a look at that red flag warning that's going into effect in the north bay hills.
