the california department of water resources shared results from today's snow survey. it shows the snow pack across the state is better than last month. but standing at 85% of average for this time of year. researchers say storms over the last few weeks of helps to improve the state's snowpack. but they'd like to see a little bit more. >> those storms in the middle of the month really did help us out. not as much as we help sum up some more warming storms. again, that, you know, it fell as rain and not snow. so we didn't get it as much of an accumulation as we had hoped. >> up to this point to the northern sierra region has done well, snowpack. there is more than 100% of average for this time of year. but the central sierra behind 80% southern sierra at 70%. they're hoping for a little bit more snow with this wet weather coming our way. meteorologist lawrence karnow here with the details and yeah, i think we've got a very active march coming our way and that means we're going to see a lot of the snow storms rolling up in the sierra nevada and some more rain for the bay

california has over 1200 reservoirs. the two largest in the bay area are shasta lake and lake oroville. now, they have been conducting the snow survey since 1941, and measuring both the depth and water content. today was at the philip snow course, one of 260 snow cours that are manually measured every nter. and here are the results. so i'll jump right into the results. our survey today recorded a snow depth of 34in. water content of 13.5in, and the snow water content measurement is 58% of average for this date and 55% of the april 1st average at this location. based on this morning's data from our automated snow sensor network throughout the state's mountains, the statewide snowpack stands at 85% of average. and he also talked about how quickly conditions can go from wet to dry, which we saw that play out. you know, we started january with an average of 106%. and then by the end of january, we dropped to 69% because of the lack of rainfall. okay. so where are we now? he said a lot of numbers. you're a scientist. he's a s
