. >> reporter: caltrans says they got a bad batch of bolts from one of their u-s manufactuers..you can see some of them sticking out of the concrete here in this video at the beginning of the month 96 threaded rods that are intended to anchor this part of the span to it's support pillers were tightened .and when they were inspected a little over a week later.32 of them.nearly a third.were found to be broken. another 192 of the bolts installed have not been tightened.but will beand closely scruntinzed. caltrans says a sample of the bolts were tested before they were embedded in concretebut not every single one. a big part of the problem.some of the bolts can't be taken out because of where they are located. so they are currently trying to figure out a solutionsince the whole point of this multi billion dollar project it to make it safe during a seismic event. once they come up with a fix, it's believed it will take a month or two to finish that work,.but they plan on doing while also finishing up the rest of the bridgeworkat this time they still think the new span will be ready for traf

. >>> a state auditor is reporting two caltrans technicians did not do work they said they did. the two technicians falsified data on level projects -- on 11 locates and they failed to check the bridges involved. also according to the audit, the two workers were made $13,000 in over time they did not earn. they made 14 recommendations to keep this from happening again. >> caltrans is working on a fix for the broken bolts on the bay area. we talked to two engineers today who said the problem can be fixed. the problem involves the weakness in the steel. they say they could happen when there is short cuts in the process. the company said they were well aware of the problem and they will work with them to revolve the situation. >>> san francisco police are investigating the theft of thousands of dollars worth of fine wine. someone broke into fine wines international in san francisco tuesday night. the thief got away with 80 bottles of wine, worth $100,000. they are trying to figure out if this was a crime of opportunity or if it was planned. >>> trending, a viral video of a clumsy b

caltran is considering replacing all 288 of the boats on the new bridge. caltran is believing that the problem with them could be that the bridge at the was designed different. while many of the bridge components were made in china. the boats were made in the united states. what they do not have a timeline on fixing the problem, or how much replacing it will cost. caltran insisted the new span is safe and that the plan to open it the day after labor day. >> this morning, the supreme court will consider the defense of merritt jack, the second of back-to-back a gay marriage cases. yesterday's accord heard hearings on california's proposition 8. the bowl or approved ban on same-sex marriage. a section of the federal defense the marriage act will be taken to the country's highest court today. it is a constitutional challenge to law that prevents a legally married gay couples from collecting federal benefits, generally available to st. mary couples. with more on today's supreme court hearing will go to a rene zmarsh who is live outside of the supreme court. >>
