melissa, you heard mia talking about the body cam footage. that's the major sticking point, what everybody is depending on. walk us through what needs to happen in order to see this body cam footage? >> i think one of the things that's unusual here and different from other situations where we've seen the release of video footage more quickly in the course of the investigation is that there's actually a north carolina law that says that the body cam footage or any video footage can't be released unless given judicial approval. the judge in the hearing last week said he would not release this video footage until the end of the month or the conclusion of the investigation. according to the prosecution, that's not unusual in north carolina, but again it does stand in stark contrast to other situations we've seen around the country where the video footage has been forthcoming more quickly. so that is part of the discussion here. there seems to have been more transparency in other cases and perhaps it looks like less transparency and maybe somethin

>> reporter: we know there's about two hours of footage in total from four body cams and one dash camd the only parts relevant to the family were parts that showed andrew brown. he only appears on camera for those 18 minutes of the video. the other parts before and after, the family will not be seeing today. the public will not be seeing any video today, as this judge made the determination a few weeks ago that he really wouldn't revisit the possibility of publicly releasing this for 30 to 45 days while the state bureau of investigation is doing their duty and reviewing this case. at this point we know the family is inside. they are reviewing the tape now. there is no time limit as to how long they can be in there. so they probably will watch it several times before they come out and tell us what their impressions are after seeing more of the video. they have seen 20 seconds of this video, but seeing the before and after moments may change the context, may give them more inside as to exactly what happened that day. eamon? >> let's talk about this releasing this to the public. there's

this body cam video shows green on the ground being handcuffed. he's face down, yet once again, the officers tase him, punch him, even kick him. he's left on the ground face down moaning in pain, according to "the associated press" for more than nine minutes, while the officers use sanitizer wipes to get the blood off their hands and faces. the ap says he was not given any aid during the nine minutes he was on the ground. at one point, a police officer is seen stepping on green, then roughly dragging green by the shackles on his ankles as another officer watches. this video clip is silent, so it's unclear what's being said or why green, who is handcuffed on his stomach and in no position to resist is being dragged. the body cam footage tells a very different story than how louisiana state troopers first described the incident in their 2019 report, which said troopers tried to pull green over for a traffic violation, which ended when green crashed his car. another police report said green was taken into custody after resisting arrest and a struggle
