in camden county matt gregry 10 on your side. all new tonight. a group spent the afternoon protesting the virginia beach police department. the mother of india kager and her supporters demonstrated outside the 7-eleven on lynnhaven parkway today. that's the intersection near salem road -- where police opened fire last year on the vehicle 27-year-old kager and 35-year-old angelo perry were sitting in. their couple's baby was with them but was not hurt. police say perry shot at them before they returned fire. kager's mother, gina best, tells us police had no right to open fire on the car while her daughter and the baby were inside. police tell us they had perry under surveillance because they connected him to a homicide in the green run area last year. as officers approached him september 5th, they say he started shooting. last night we told you best's mother is calling for the justice department to get involved and demanded to see surveillance video from the 7-eleven. police say they can't release any evidence while the commonwealth's attorney is

he joins us live from camden. judi, dawndy...methe's friends and neighbors showed their support here at the kershaw county courthouse for today's bond hearing. there were very few empty seats behind jimmy methe in the room itself. they were there to ask the judge to grant him a low defendant's character. methe has lived here in camden since 1996.and according to his supporters is an active member of the community. prosecutors feel however he did not have any legal right to fatally shoot 17 year old brandon spencer during that attempted robbery saturday morning. investigators say they concluded spencer was running from methe's home after he came out to confront the two people who were near his truck. according to the kershaw county sheriff's office, there had been several break-ins in methe's neighborhood during recent months. sheriff jim matthews says that gave the defendant no cause to take the law into his own hands. and this tree fell onto seventh avenue in pine hill, camden county last night. it also took down power lines with it. you can see emergency crews blocked off that street. in cumberland county strong winds toppled a tree onto a day care sending it crashing into a room where babies normally sleep during the day. this happened after work hours so no one was hurt. when the tree crashed through all kids first day care in vineland, the business is now closed today. so workers can clean up debris and repair damage. and crews have been working throughout the night and into the morning to restore power to homes about 50,000 customers total loss electricity during the storm last night. we just checked and here are the latest numbers. peco has about 7,800 customers without power still. a.c. electric about 1700, 1600 pse & g customers without electricity and delmarva reports about 200 outages in new castle county. the severe weather has moved on but still pretty windy out there. we take a live look at the flag atop the aramark building. nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hur

our mike desumma was in the courtroom today and joins us now from camden with more. judi, charles a judge is now considering whether to grant bond for jimmy methe. he's being held in jail for fatally shooting 17 year old brandon spencer. today dozens of methe's supporters asked the judge to grant him a low bond. kershaw county sheriff jim also a friend of the defendant --- also asked that he be released on his own recognizance. matthews's office did of course bring these manslaughter charges against methe. investigators, are firm in their stance that methe had no legal right to fire on brandon spencer early saturday morning. authorities concluded that the 17 year old was running away from the defendant's property on norton drive when he was fatally shot from behind. spencer and another person allegedly took items out of methe's truck. his attorneys and neighbors say he had been the victim of several break ins in the past. coleman deas --- friend of jimmy methe "if they that close to his home stealing off of his equipment..what's to say they ain't coming back the next

deanna, the sheriff tells me the community here in camden county holds their breath tonight, whie the man known as capt jim brincfield here's what the deputies say happened. captian jim used his burn barrel friday afternoon. from what they can tell, he may have used an accelerant for the burning. at some point the barrell exploded and caught brincfield on fire. when medics and deputies got to his home they found him in the shower cooling his burns. the sheriff says the fire burned 3/4 of his body paramedics flew him to sentara norfolk general hospital. a neighbor told me the entire family has been called to his side this afteroon. the sheriff says the entire communty knows captain jim well.

there are extra law enforcement officers at camden county high school today. that's because someone called in a threat against the school. last night, the sheriff's office got a call from an unknown person saying he was going to attack the school around noon today. camden county schools sent out an alert to parents and students telling them about the threat. the sheriff's office is trying to figure out who made the call and if it was a legitimite threat. still, there are extra deputies at the school just in case. new at midday -- the york-poqouson sherriff's office arrested a man williamsburg police say robbed a gas station this morning. police say a man walked into the valero gas station on york street near quarterpath road in williamsburg around 7:15. he went to the clerk, pulled out a gun, and demanded money. after he got some cash, he ran away. york county deputies took a man into custody during a traffic stop. police say someone saw the car leaving the area of the robbery. police think the man is connected to gloucester, and poquoson as well. if any charg
