it is canada. about 18% of all u.s. trade is done with canada. more than $300 billion in exports coming to this country. if that slows down, if the canadian economy takes a hit, the u.s. could take a hit as well, and let's not forget about the canadian dollar that's down about 20%. all this hour we have a bunch of interviews. let's start off right now hitting directly the oil and gas story. mike rose ceo. i guess -- you're in a suit, and i'm a weather wimp bundled up here. in lehman's terms, what the heck is happening to the price of oil that it loses more than half its market value in six months? >> well, and we're in the unfortunate circumstance where both oil and gas have had their prices cut, you know, almost in half. we think it's overdone in the short-term. i think you're over supplied on the oil side by maybe 1.5 million barrel az day. call it 1% or 2%, and the price has gone down 50%. the reaction to that has been swift and severe with cutbacks in drilling programs. >> you're not cutting back. >> we cut our budget in december. >> but not

well okay, trans-canada we know where the name derives from. we know that much much of the oil to be transported will be from alberta but i think it is important to acknowledge that you have got about 100,000 barrels of bakken crude that will come from north dakota and montana down -- down through the mid continent and they will -- they will come down, they will avoid the west coast if we have keystone x.l. constructed. the last point i'd like to make for the folks back home that i work for on -- and that are following this issue i really think the keystone x.l. is a test for us. it's a test of whether or not we as a nation can still review, can license can permit and build a large-scale energy infrastructure project. now, we're looking at that, we're looking at just that in alaska. we need to know that that can continue to be done in this country, because if we can't do it even here in the lower 48 where your costs are lower where you have existing infrastructure that you tie into which keystone x.l. will, you already have the southern leg alr

we already buy 2.5 million barrels from canada right now. we're already dependent on canada for 2.5 million barrels a day. we also buy oil from other countries, and i think you ought to question why we're buying oil from these other countries and especially when you look at venezuela, we buy 755,000 barrels day from venezuela and they are an authoritarian regime impoverishes its citizens. they violate their human rights and have put down their citizens. but we're purchasing a product from them that they use the resources to continue this type of regime. the same here of 2013, we bolt 1.3 million from saudi arabia. now, i don't know about you but i'm going to question, the resources from that, are the proceeds from that oil that we've paid saudi arabia for was it used for the betterment of the united states of america? for our best interests? i have my doubts about that. we also buy over 40,000 barrels a day from russia. don't need to tell but what's going on there. i think you all know that. the keystone pipeline would allow us to more safel
