to the south of us, down on the south shore, places like cape cod, they saw wind gusts of 99 miles anrricane force wind gusts, and that started to move here into the boston area. you've got heavy blowing snow, at times snowing 2 to 4 inches an hour in just, you know, the last couple of hours, we've gained a ton of snow here on the ground. it's hard to tell exactly how much snow because of all the wind. there's a lot of drifting, a lot of blowing, and that's hampering clean-up, as you might imagine. for the most part, it appears that people are heeding the warnings. public officials here, the governor, the mayor have said it's a saturday, please stay home. don't go on the roads. if you do, it's going to be whiteout conditions and be incredibly dangerous. we've heard of some spinouts and some accidents on route 24, route 93 around here, but for the most part, in the city of boston, i see any people who are out are just walking around. there were some people playing with their kids in christopher columbus park here behind me on their sleds but for the most part, people seem to be staying

residents warned about dangerous wind, snow, and coastal flooding on cape cod. tonight, more than 3,100 flights already canceled tomorrow. thousand of flights at boston's logan airport alone. senior meteorologist rob marciano leading us off tonight. he's right there where the bull's-eye is, boston, to take us through this. hey, rob. >> reporter: hi, david. all week along we have been talking about several ingredients that need to come together for a major storm. now that's happening. we have higher confidence if ao to -- the lowest off the coast of the carolinas. it's taking shape, phasing in with colder air. it's going to be all snow. will get by new york city tomorrow morning. heavy at 7:00 a.m. atlanta, 50 miles per hour wind. i-95 is going to be a mess. don't bother getting on it. plows will have difficult times keep up with these rates. blizzard conditions, hartford, boston. by 5:00 p.m., new england still getting hammered with 60 to 70-mile-per-hour wind. coastal flooding, power outages, dangerous conditions. swath of 6 to 12 inches of snow, and 12 to 24 e

areas near the coast talking the cape cod. they were hit hard, too, with hurricane force winds and flooding as well. that makes a storm even worse right now a bitter cold. but then the wind and the flooding and then the storm also canceled almost 5,000 flights across the country, too. and you can see some of these arrival boards and departure boards with cancels all the way down the list. saturday alone, more than 3500 flights were canceled. we had the airlines, delta, jetblue united. they'll issued waivers allowing travelers to fly from a multiple east coast airports to rebook without paying any difference in airfare. so at least they gave them that. but boy, look at the runways there. the tarmacs completely covered in snow. luckily, we did have to do with any of that here, although the ripple effects of those cancellations, sure impacted us. here's a live look at sfo. we've got john in the weather center with a closer look at our forecast here. and of course, what's happening also elsewhere in the country. good morning, john
