congress does not like being misled, and nancy cordes is on capitol hill for us tonight. nancy? >> reporter: scott, one lawmaker today called it "an outrageous abuse of power" and he was a democrat. republicans are even more scathing and both sides say they want congressional investigations. according to a treasury department timeline, i.r.s. specialists first began singling out tea party groups in march of 2010. the groups complained and, more than a year later, in june of, s committee sent the first of three letters to the i.r.s. asking if it was targeting conservative groups. the i.r.s. said no, insisting the agency was apolitical and nonpartisan. but later that same month an i.r.s. division head, lois lerner, was informed that agents in cincinnati had been instructed to scrutinize tea party applications for tax- exempt status. she instructed that the criteria be immediately revised. the i.r.s. never acknowledged the targeting. even a year later, in march of 2012 when i.r.s. commissioner doug shulman was asked about it in a ways and means committee hearing. >> there's absolut

it is a busy day down on capitol hill.ll angles covered for you next jon: high noon on the east coast april we can now tell you there is a sentence reached in the conviction of abortion doctor kermit gosnell. the people you are looking at on the screen some of the jurors who voted to convict him. the judge sentenced gosnell to life in prison without parole for the murder of baby a in this case. he was also sentenced to two and a half to five years for the involuntary manslaughter of a woman who died in his care. he also received ten to 20 years for a handful of conspiracy charges. the judge declared no further punish. for the remaining charges, including performing abortions after 24 weeks and violating the informed consent laws. gosnell's life sentence will run consecutive to his previous life sentences. all other charges will run concurrently. he showed no emotion while the judge read the sentence. when the judge asked him if he would like to say anything he smiled and look at his attorney and said not at this time. unde
